SG options this offseason for MLE...
This offseason, we will probably resign one of Arroyo or Dooling to back up Jameer, and maybe draft another PG or big. (Calderon is not an option, just not going to happen). Dwight, Battie, Cook, Foyle, maybe Fran, Gortat should hold down the big spots. This is just my guess. None of the PF/C available for the MLE are interesting, correct me if I am wrong.
All of these players seems to be within reach with the MLE and most of their teams are not interested in resigning them for various reasons. We could definitely get one of them if we try.
Please let me know who I am forgetting and I will add them.
Also, give me your rank of who you would go after. this is my ranking...
Kelenna Azubuike from Golden State.
6ft 5in 220lbs
I doubt GS focuses on resigning him when they already have to deal with resigning Biedrens and Ellis. He is averaging 10 ppg 5 rpg in 20 mpg and shoots 40% from 3 playing behind Jackson and Ellis and ahead of Pietrus and Belinelli. 24 years old.
Josh Childress from ATL
6ft 8in 210lbs
Another SG/SF hybrid. pretty good defender. very versatile. 24 years old. 11ppg 5 rpg 35% from 3 in 30 mpg.
JR Smith from Denver
6ft 6in 220lbs
athletic freak, good shooter, good size. has all the tools but does he have a brain? 22 years old, 10 ppg, 2 rpg 2 apg in 18 mpg shoots 35% from 3.
Mickael Pietrus from Golden State
6ft 6in 220lbs
SG/SF hybrid, good defender, slasher. Not on top of GS's priority list. 25 years old. unimpressive stats, inconsistent minutes.
Bonzi Wells from Houston
6ft 5in 210 lbs
Good player that has fallen from grace. good scorer and rebounder. good size. 31 years old.
MAYBE ATTAINABLE WITH MLE
Corey Maggette from LAC
28 years old, 6ft 6 in 225lbs , 20 ppg 6 rpg 3apg in 35 mpg 36% from 3
Ron Artest from Sac
28 years old, 6 ft 7in 240 lbs, not your typical SG but very versatile, headcase

The only two who actually have upside....I think Childress is the safe bet though...Kelenna could be a One hit wonder....

Childress is 7th in the NBA in FG%. He would thrive in a starting role. Any chance Maggette takes a paycut to come home to Orlando? Oh, and JR Smith has TONS of upside. He just has the tendency to be an idiot. But he is close friends with Dwight, so who knows.
This is my SG wish list:
Childress
Maggette
Smith
Pietrus

JR Smith has some upside too. If he can find the right system/fit and gets his attitude/head right, he could be a quality starting SG. He is only 22 with freak athleticsim and a good jumpshot. But then again so does Gerald Green. But as these players mature, they should find their niche in the league.

id take kelenna right now i love that kid he's gonna be a superstar. but i doubt gs lets him go
well they have to resign Beidrens since he is their only big and a very solid center. Ellis and GS are a natural fit and he will command top dollar. Also, if Baron opts out, not likely, they will need to sign him. I dont think they can afford to resign Kelenna.

are these guys really attainable with the MLE? I seriously doubt it. Both will probably be resigned by their respective teams.
We just need to keep adding pieces, like SG's with upside and hope the pan out, via the MLE to acquire trade assets and then go after players like Maggette.

I think GS will probably keep Kelenna if all he gets are MLE offers, he obviously fits in well with GS.
Also, I think people are undervaluing the chance that GS wants to let go of Ellis. He could command a lot of money. They did let go a guy like Arenas after all.
On the thread, keep Pietrus (for the MLE), Wells, and Smith as far away from the Magic as possible please.

I love how all threads invariably degenerate into pipe dreams.
Lets just put Arenas at the two and sign him to the MLE this summer, he'll obviously want to play next to Dwight and we can just pay him the rest of his salary under the table. Voila.

I like the way you think. Doing it this way we can avoid the lux tax!

Corey does want to come home, he keeps stating it every other year. He'd take a pay cut, but the MLE won't be enough.
I really don't think anyone on that list is better or cheaper than the guy we have starting at SG right now. Mo has been a godsend and he loves this team to death.

This team needs to keep adding assets and a SG like Childress/Kelenna/Smith has upside.
Then we can go after Maggette/Miller, etc
