Just for speculation sake but any interest on the Magic regarding Odom?

Lamar Odom for Rashard Lewis?

The Magic have been looking at getting another PF-type player to play alongside Howard, that's why they've been going after Webber before he signed with Golden State.

The Magic have been saying that both Lewis and Turkoglu are pretty much identical players in the front-line.

Since Turkoglu (with a much much MUCH more cheaper contract) is playing All-Star-esque ball, much better than the over-priced shooter in Lewis, would the Magic be inclined to swap Lewis for a Power-Point-Forward like Odom who rebounds, posts up, drives, slashes, and create plays for his teammates much better than Webber? Not to mention that Odom's also 7 years younger.

Magic coach SVG has always been fond of Odom back in his Heat days. Plus, both Odom/Lewis have almost similar salaries except Odom has a slightly cheaper contract ending in 2009 at $14.5 million, while Lewis' contract stretches all the way until 2013 in which he is guaranteed a whopping $18.5 million. A little too much to pay for a team's 3rd option - almost stretching to "Allan Houston" territory.

In a Power-Point-Forward like Odom, this gives the Magic the 2nd long body to help Howard not only in the rebounding department, but also post-up, drive and attack the basket, as well as create plays and more opportunities for his teammates to score.

Side note: Say if the Magic did get Webber, would Webber have been placed in the starting line-up? If that's the case, who would've come off the bench instead?

We never pursued Webber, Odom is NOT a point forward, and this trade would make absolutely no sense for either team. Period.

I don't think there's a team dumb enough to take that contract.

I wouldn't think twice trading him though.

Haha, the guy who wrote this called Lewis the third option as well.

I love Odom, he's not a point forward per se but he is a great passer for such a big guy and he can score from anywhere inside 20 ft or so.

Odom's problems are injuries though, I wouldn't risk it if the opportunity came.

Besides, Gasol, Lewis and Kobe? (Not to mention Bynum) Dear God.

The Lakers will have to do something with Odom or Gasol though, especially as Bynum progresses, there's a lot of duplication there.

There is no way in heck that Lewis is traded. It simply would not happen. Full stop (period).

What seems to give me a perpetual saddness over this situation is the fact that, as said previously, I honestly don't think there's another team in the league who would take the burden of a maxxxxxx contract for Rashard..

We're stuck with him for 6 years guys.

I wouldn't trade Shard for 2 Lamar Odom's.

this trade def. makes sens for the lakers...it lets kobe drive as he has another shooter out there (better than odom), opens space up for bynum down low, and takes pressure off of pau

my sources say there will be no trading before the deadline. so we can lock all trdae threads

even though shard is > odom, we need someone to rebound and actually show up for close games

this is gay, i think alot of people still dont understand that a large amount of hedos success this year comes from having shard on the court

I find it funny that Orlando would want to trade Rashard Lewis because he and Turkoglu "are pretty much identical players", but they would want to bring in Odom, who is even identicaler (yes, I made that word up) to Hedo than Lewis is.

Lewis and Hedo are not identical.

Hedo's game flourishes with the ball in his hands creating shots for himself and his playmaking.

Rashard, on the other hand, does not need the ball in his hands. I think people tend to mix this up with "disappearing", but I see it as an asset to fitting in with Hedo and Dwight. He still gets his, but he does it without dominating the ball and taking away from others.

So why do we need Odom?

Personally, I think Rashard fits much better than Odom because of the reasons I stated above. To be most effective, Odom would need the ball in his hands, thus taking away from Hedo. It's Odom/Turkoglu where I see the redundancy, not Lewis/Turkoglu.

Yes, unfortunately, I think many people would rather have a cheaper player and an 8th seed. "Yeah, well at least he's not overpaid!".

I don't know if people think of deals like this because Odom has played for SVG. But I don't see it happening. The Magic sought Rashard because of his 3-point shooting, exactly the reason this OP wants him. If the Magic traded him, they would need another shooter again. Hedo was a 3-point shooter, too, before Rashard got here so it's not like the Magic didn't know what they were doing when they brought him in. Odom is a very good player. But he doesn't play his best when he is playing power forward either -- one of the reasons that the Lakers brought in Gasol, who plays his best at power forward. The question is when Odom is going to come to play and whether he's going to be able to stay healthy. Rashard might struggle some games, but I'd prefer to keep him, thanks.

P.S. Why don't the Lakers fans look to some other team to deal with? You already got a fan favorite off the Magic roster this season. And Magic fans haven't been all that eager to help the Lakers for quite some time now (see Shaq). I don't think they made any friends in the league with the way they just stole Pau from the Grizzlies. Go try to pick the best players off other teams and leave us alone.
