turkoglu is legit

Post#1 » by garbagnani » Tue Feb 5, 2008 3:45 am

i have turko in my fantasy pool this year. he is very legit. i have watched a few orlando games lately and see how good he has become. the magic scored big time in acquiring him (im sure the spurs wish they matched).

He has better numbers then rashard lewis across the board, and is the same age (not to mention the massive difference in salary :o ).

while lewis's contract handcuffs the franchise for years to come, turkoglu may just end up being the magic's saviour. A low cost player like turkoglu (6mill per for 3 more years?) will go a long way in offsetting the mistake of paying lewis so much!

seriously lewis should be traded to the knicks asap (before isah is fired! lol). He is a good player but orlando doesnt need him (espechially at price he costs), money could be much better spent!

After 13 pints, I'm sure the worlds strongest man could be robbed..

On a more serious note, Hedo got overlooked and is deserving of a all-star vote, I hope he gets in the 3 point contest at the least just to have some kind of feel good story to his amazing play.

I have one and my mind is still not made up. After all, isn't Turkoglu just the next Garrity (a jump shooting big)?

I was at the game and am a Turk fan but some things just shouldn't happen in the NBA. Turk had a triple-double which typically means a good game but it doesn't in this case. He missed 6 easy layups. I have a reason for this and I will probably get ragged on but it's true. Ever watch the magic warm-up?
Well Turk doesn't even show up till 5 minutes after everyone else (probably playing video games or watching TV instead) and when he does its just a joke fest. Aside from maybe Rashard no one takes warm ups seriously. You watch the Spurs, Mavs, Pistons, and Celtics warm-up they are focused, serious and they don't miss easy layups. This team needs a leader, not a captain who gets DNP-CDs, until then this team will never be elite.

Try I'm right about all of that. 1) this team doesn't take it seriously 2) they lack focus 3) our captain is an overpaid NBDL player 4) hedo misses easy layups 5) we have no emotional leader

good try though.

1.) This team is the third best team in the east, so they obviously take something seriously. 2.) See 1. 3.) You think you're the first person to shed light on the fact that we have PG issues? 4.) Hedo misses a few lay ups in one game and suddenly he doesn't take the game seriously? Please. 5.) Hey RawTalent, this is Dwight, not sure if you two have met...

I agree, for the most part. It's great that this team has so much fun together, and that they are able to remain lighthearted in the midst of pressure and of travel, but once the clock starts we really need to focus.

Turkoglu missed five or more point-blank shots yesterday. While this doesn't mean he doesn't take the game seriously, perhaps he should make up for it by practicing layups instead of joking around at the halfcourt line before tonight's game.

Never said that, just said he is supposedly our captain (leader) but he doesn't get off the bench. Dwight is no emotional leader, not yet at least. Dunking doesn't mean leadership. They'd be pushing Detroit if they came out and played all 4 quarters like they did against Boston but instead they play 3 quarters and get blown out in the 1st and have to play catch up the rest of the way. That's why they are 3rd in East instead of 2nd.

I agree to an extent. I do think it reflects a lack of toughness on our part when before, during and after games, you see big smiles on our players' faces. But I think toughness and focus are two different things. It's hard to condemn a team with the record we have for lacking focus on the whole. I do, however, think we need toughness, which is certainly not a new concept on this board.

I guess it just depends on your definition of "emotional leader." To me, it's someone who can get the team fired up, get the home crowd fired up, and Dwight does that every game. As for a strategic leader, a floor commander, you're right, we're definitely lacking in that area, hence my point guard comment. And a new thread is started on that every day here.

Main point isn't PG play, it's taking warm-ups seriously so that you don't miss 6 straight easy layups. We air balled 4 straight shots (evans 2, dwight and cook) within 3 feet of the basket. Instead of running through the lines flipping the ball up they should try scoring and maybe, just maybe that will help in the real game. Oh ya and by your definition of emotional leader, the Jet Blue Crew would be our best leader cuz our fans react more to getting a free T-shirt than a Dwight dunk.
