Lakers
Watched the game tonight with the Nets, and wow, did the Lakers commit the crime of the century getting Gasol. He fits in their system perfectly. When Bynum comes back and gets in game shape, they are legitimate favorites in the east, in my mind.

Hopefully they wore down the Nets for us.

I don't know about that...a lineup of Bynum, Gasol, Odom, Bryant, and Fisher is pretty impressive if you ask me. Again, I'm assuming Bynum is back and tuned up come playoff time.

They're only 2.5 games behind the Suns and .5 better than the spurs without Pau and with Bynum out the last several weeks...So how do you figure adding a legitimate allstar isn't such a big deal?

If Bynum becomes the player he can become that group can be special. IMO Bynum has a chance to be in the group of Dwight, Oden in the future.
They can beat the Suns and Spurs if all is healthy. The Suns already have much difficulty with Bynum and Odem. Not to mention all the attention Kobe has to get. Now who suppose to guard that front line. They will get killed on the boards and in the paint.
The Spurs will be tougher but they have maybe the best unit 5 in the West now.
Gasol is severly underrated. On the offensive end Gasol is as good as any big in the league. The only thing that really keeps him from being a Garnett and Duncan like player is rebounding and defense. Playing him next to Bynum and with that group of rebounders there nothing to stop the Lakers if Bynum is back 100%.

If Pau can man up in the playoffs, the Lakers can challenge anyone.

You mean two teams who don't take the regular season that seriously because they know they are playoff teams. If you think the Spurs and Suns now is what you are going to see in the playoffs you have another thing coming.
You think the Spurs are going to be dispatched that easily just because the Lakers got Pau Gasol?
As for the Suns, the Lakers couldn't even beat them when they didn't have Amare. They aren't beating them just because they added Pau.
They aren't beating the Spurs or Suns in the playoffs. Hell they won't beat the Mavs either.

I guess the point is they didn't add a role player, they added a franchise player to a team that was already in the playoffs. It's not like they were getting swept either, they were already giving the Suns all they could handle. So my question to you is, were the Suns and Spurs more than a franchise player better than the Lakers before they got Pau?

No offense Richy but why the hell would you put Oden in the same category as Dwight? Oden hasnt even played a game yet. For all we knwo he could end up being a bust like Brown. However the chances of that happening are close to none. But you cant put him in the same category atleast not right now.
