Denton: UPDATES ON REDICK'S REQUEST, TRADE TALKS AND FSN

ORLANDO -- J.J. Redick had played just three minutes in nine of the previous 10 games, yet he was still among the first Orlando Magic players at Amway Arena Wednesday to work out two hours before the game.

That hasn't changed for Redick. And neither has his desire to be traded to a team where he could possibly play more.

Mired on the Magic's bench again this season, Redick has had agent Arn Tellem approach Orlando general manager Otis Smith about dealing him to a team where he could potentially see more playing time.

TRADE TALKS: Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said he and Smith conduct talks about potential trades and the composition of Orlando's roster on an almost daily basis.

Van Gundy said Smith is well aware of his problems with trying to play three point guards (Carlos Arroyo, Keyon Dooling and Jameer Nelson) and four shooting guards (Evans, Bogans, Redick and Dooling).

Van Gundy said his differences with Smith are like those between most coaches and GMs -- coaches are locking into win-now mode, while GMs must consider the long-term viability of a team.

Hmmm...

These tidbits are a hint something will get done.

Anyway, all hail John Denton!

I guess Otis doesn't really like the team.

Why does it have to be either Otis likes the team or Otis dislikes the team?

Why can't it just be: Otis is the GM and it's his job to always be exploring ways to improve the team.

My feeling is their will be a trade before the deadline.

I also hope FSN/BrightHouse can get things moving on a deal for the station.

This dispute has gone on for years when FSN was sportschannel.

While FSN and Sun Sports are very similar, we will at least get more Devil Ray and college games along with some national shows.

I understand BrightHouse's position here though but am hopeful something can get done not just with BrightHouse but the Comcast stations in Florida with no FSN.

Who, where, and why?

As well as we are playing now, if we make a trade it better be a significant enough upgrade to offset the possible chemistry upset. A trade just for the sake of being active is the worst possible move. It would be Doug Christie all over again.

Bottom line for me is we cannot keep Jameer and Carlos, one has to go, Dooling stays because of his defense and attack the basket mentality.

I would be looking at guys like Haslem, Kurt Thomas and Nick Collison..

I was responding to how people overreacted after the "I like this team" comment.

If Redick is to play for the Magic, it looks like Bogans would be the best target to unload. Dooling and Evans have proven a greater worth.

Perhaps an ideal trade package for the Magic includes components around Garrity, Arroyo, and Bogans. Perhaps the Magic could add a SnT with Outlaw at a vet min, if that would be needed to bump up salaries (I guess the Magic still have his rights).

My prediction is that we trade either Arroyo or Bogans or both before the trade deadline.

Well I hope they're either looking for a PF or a PG, the only season I don't want to acquire a SG is because that means Rashard is going to stay playing power forward, and I think we need more toughness and rebounding underneath the basket as opposed to a SG who is going to do what we can do, score and hit threes.

My hopes are that the Haslem rumors are true, but unlikely unless Miami is going a big man route through the draft. Or look at some teams who might want some cap relief in exchange for a big man.

Some PFs on my list that I think would thrive here in Orlando:

Elton Brand: A no brainer, I only give this the slightest of chances of ever happening because of the insane trades that have been going down this season, and this also depends on a full blown melt down in Clipper-Land for this to happen, but Brand is everything we need in a PF, he can hit the mid range jumper, has a strong post game and can rebound.

If we look for any type of PF, look at Elton Brand as a blue print.

Udonis Haslem

Kenny Thomas

Chuck Hayes (Even though he is listed as a SF, he can hustle!)

Zach Randolph (Yes I know, he would probably die from running the court ..this is a strong wild card that has huge benefits if he blossoms, or mediocre results if not, lose 40 pounds you fat bastahd!)

Charlie Villanueva

I am actually not surprised if we dont make a trade. Knowing how cautious SVG and Otis are they will stay put. We are winning right now and all three of our point gaurds are reasons for the Ws. SVG likes the freedom to choose between the 3 pgs it helps keep them all on their toes.

True we do need a PF but its not likely that we will get a quality pf with trading only JJ and neither SVG nor Otis are willing to part with what works. I dont see Bogans nor Evans leaving either due to the same reason for pgs.

So I have a feeling we are stuck for this year atleast and watch out NBA next year. Our dilema will be which one to bring off the bench, the $118M Rashard or almost an allstar Hedo.
