My first topic here in awhile, but I am watching the Magic-Laker game and i just saw Showbe Bryant lean into the defender (Mo Evans who was trying to get out of his way) and get the foul call. It happens alot, i know..but is there a way to get the refs to not call that or am i just seeing something else.

yea i just got home and turned it on and it was the first play i saw. Strange thing though, i'm pretty sure i heard the ref blow the whistle a split moment before the contact.

Yea they call something like that every game. How is it a foul if the offensive player is initiating the contact.....

i don't really have that big of an issue with it unless it's hugely blatant. I mean if the guy pump fakes, the guy lunges and the player jumps slightly into him and there's huge contact, give him the call. But if he pump fakes, the guy goes up and comes back down and is NOT touching him yet, and then the guy jumps into him (as the player is already on the ground) that is a no-call.

And for the love of god would these refs please call it the same way every time? Just because his name is Kobe, or Lebron, or Wade, or Carmelo, etc doesn't mean they should get that call more easily than some scrub that fools Kobe into jumping.

Unfortunatly it happens in nearly every type of game pld at competitive level. rf's assume because of reputation. Take Ronaldo [the Man Utd version] in football; widely regarded as the best footballer today, especially for his ability to beat a man at full sprint [and i mean SPRINT] yet when he goes to ground, he is assumed a diver by the ref's.

The same yet opposite by Kobe etc.. Wade etc.. get so much respect because of their "name" yet they arent really fouled, the ref's just call it because they assume they are so good they must have been foul'd.

agreed, but look at old shaq games, he would shoulder into people like a fullback and never get called... go figure

I hate that type of foul. I have no idea why the NBA actually calls it on the defender. I've had a problem with it for awhile now.

It's smart of the shooter to do it; until the NBA fixes things, they'll keep on getting the cheap call.

Its just so clear that the offensive player is leaning in yet they still call it.

Sp I agree 100%. Funny thing is I was at Gators with my girl eating Dinner and saw this foul. I complained to her about it being the worst foul ever to be called in the NBA for about 10 mins. She laughed and was like shouldnt that be an offensive foul?

Yep...Some of the extreme ways it gets called for the stars are ridiculous. When the defender is trying to avoid fouling a guy who is throwing himself at you, it shouldn't be a foul. Goes against that verticality rule that they said before the season they were going to enforce this season -- but clearly aren't (see some of fouls Dwight gets charged with, too).

Another lesser violation (not a foul) I hate happened out there tonight. The Lakers were getting in trouble with the shot clock. Either Bogans or Evans had their back to the guy with the ball, trying to deny a pass to one of the Lakers. The guys with the ball throws the ball of the BACK of the Magic player's heel, and it's called a kick ball violation. What is this? Dodge ball?
