What do you think of Artest going to Orlando for expiring/prospect/pick?

Or taking Artest + KT for straight up expirings?

I know everyone "hates" Kenny Thomas because of his contract, but he's not injured and could be a good backup PF. The reason why he's not playing this year is because we told him at the beginning of the season that he's not part of our future and we just won't play him. But if you look at his seasons in the past....

(SAC)05-06: 9ppg 7rpg

Not terrible numbers, but OBVIOUSLY not worth his contract. But the real reason would be to get Artest. He would be a gamble because of his contract, but you would have his bird rights and could re-sign him to a better deal than anyone else. He wants to sign with a winning team, and if your team does good in the playoffs AND you can offer more than the MLE (like other contenders), theres a good chance he would stay around. He has always said he would love to play with Dwight Howard, so I think he would fit in good with your team. If he bolts...at least you only traded expirings for him (although you would be stuck with KT).

Id do it, we dont use 1 of our expirings in garrity, And Carlos and Dooling most likely wont resign next yr. Adding Artest would just be a quick fix though, he most likely would opt out afterwards. But I think his addition would be great here and Thomas would be a decent back as well. If we were to do this trade, we would seriously need to find a backup PG. Maybe Kyle from Memphis

thomas is not a decent back-up. and i about had it with kings fans trying to dump him. he has a huge contract and he blows.

How do you know? Because the Kings won't play him? He averaged a DOUBLE DOUBLE his last year in the East. He has a terrible contract, but Artest is desperately needed by the Magic. You have no defense presence other than Howard. Hughes just went off for 40 on your team! Larry **** Hughes!

Yes, but there is a really good chance that Artest would change teams after the season since he has an option in his contract. There's really not much point in those kinds of deals for guys who could leave in the offseason anyway. Orlando hasn't been a team that he has expressed any interest in. I've heard a few others so I would think that wouldn't be productive after this season. If you're going to trade your expirings, you want to get someone who can help you for the long term. Otherwise, just let the other guys' contracts expire or try to re-sign them why you still have their Bird rights in case you need them.

Besides, I've read that the Kings are trying to hold up the Nuggets for Nene, Linas Kleiza and Eduardo Najera for Artest and Kenny Thomas. Don't know if that's true -- but that's a profoundly different deal that doesn't sound like they plan on settling for expirings.

They are trying to, but the Nuggets won't give up Kleiza unless Artest agrees not to opt out.

I know there hasn't been any rumors out there with Artest going to Orlando, but I just see it as a good fit for Artest. He would bring some much needed defense to your team and I think you would re-sign him. Just like you said, if the contract expires, you have the Bird rights...which is what you would have if you traded for Artest. Most of the expirings you would be trading would probably not resign with your team next season anyways....

Artest probably would fit but Otis Smith probably thinks a plugger will do the trick..not saying I agree, having Ron Artest to go against Lebron, Pierce and Prince/Hamilton would be huge but I don't think our front office cares, they are more than willing to make Dwight Howard be the only guy defending and rebounding on this team.

A player like Artest is exactly what we need, attitude and toughness especially in the playoffs.

Exactly, we need a guy like Artest. Our biggest problem this year has been our guards, opposing teams guards go off for a huge amount of points, I doubt Hughes would have gotten 40 with Artest on him. Plus Ron has a good contract for a guy like him.

A few days ago I was watching the Sac-GS game and he gets a steal (3rd quarter IIRC), drives to the basket completely alone for an easy dunk and when he lands he starts taunting and beating his hand on his chest like if he had just made the decisive play on game 7 of the finals. The refs give him a tech and he keeps beating on his chest "macho" style making a hell of a show and leaving his coach and his teammates with that "wtf is he doing" look in their faces.

In this clip, Artest clearly was in the head of Utah players, but he himself seems quite calm.

Yes, I do think his emotional play would be good for Orlando. Yes, I think his skill level far exceeds his pay rate. Yes I think Artest would do about anything to win games.

On a mentally stable, winning team, players like Artest are great. After all, these were the same issues when Rasheed Wallace went to Detroit. And that clearly worked out! And of course Rodman is the classic example here. But I think you could lump AI into this as well.

Some guys want to win so bad that they look crazy. Winning just makes them look good.

I don't know about Ron. Yes, he's a great player. But once he gets here there will be another guy demanding the ball. And even Dwight doesn't get that many touches it seem..... So he'ld be more of a cancer.

I understand your argument, but have this question. Is Rasheed Wallace mentally challenged (as you put it)?

Wallace is the master as curious behavior. And yet, he helps his team win games.

There's no way you can compare both. Wallace never had direct confrontations with his coaches like Artest, Walace doesn't hold the record for most flagrant fouls (between a tech and a flagrant it's a world of difference) and I never heard about him dedicating more time on beating on his wife or worrying about his rap albums than trying to win on the court.
The only problem with Wallace is that he loses his temper with refs too quickly.
