Official Trade Thread (update pg. 12 Haslem/Seattle)

Post#1 » by DiplomaticMagic » Thu Feb 14, 2008 9:11 pm

The NBA trade deadline is Feb. 21, and with Carlos Arroyo now appearing to be the odd-man out of the Magic's rotation, you have to believe GM Otis Smith is casting a net.

J.J. Redick wants out, and the Magic might be trying to package a deal with he and Arroyo, along with Pat Garrity's expiring $3.5 million contract.

They need a power forward, preferably a tough, defender such as Kurt Thomas of rebuilding Seattle.

Arroyo, a fan favorite, looks to be the most vulnerable. He is clearly the third point guard now that Keyon Dooling is healthy and backing up Jameer Nelson.

Arroyo also is in the final year of his contract, which makes it salary-cap friendly for teams.

Smith agrees if the Magic were to make a trade, acquiring a defensive player makes the most sense, but he still is thinking "big picture" over a fast fix.

The Magic also don't want to take on a longterm contract, what with the extensions of Dwight Howard and Jameer Nelson to kick in next season on the heels of Rashard Lewis' $118 million deal already on the books.

The Magic might not be able to consider dealing Keith Bogans at the cluttered two-guard spot. They haven't shown any faith in playing Redick, who would be Mo Evans' backup if Bogans leaves.

I know there's been comments about SVG and this, but it's funny that Arroyo goes from #1 backup/part time starter to on the edge of the rotation in the span of a few weeks.

But then again this is a blog ...

Schmitz is so ill informed, he has such a loose knowledge of the game and for a local beat guy, he is very out of touch with what the team needs, wants and can do. not to mention he seems to all but hate the Magic when they aren't winning.

however, it really depends on if JJ will be included in any package, IF he is, then we have the chance to go after a decent player, maybe CV or something, if JJ isn't being included than we have to look at options like Kurt Thomas...even though it sounds like Seattle might even be willing to waive him off before the deadline if they cant move him...

I really can't wait til the deadline has passed... So we finally know who is staying and going.

This kind of stuff always messes with my roster on 2k8. LOL

i would take K. Thomas but he is getting up there in age. and i dont know off hand what kinda contract he is in. Even though there is a slim 2 none chance of it happening ( Rilez ) i would like to see JJ,Pat,Pick for Udonis Haslem... Heat fans are insisting that we have to take Blounts contract?

honestly I'd take smush or Blount if it meant getting Haslem, he is the PERFECT PF for this team

I would love to make to separate trades one involving one of the Millers (Mike or Andre) and one for a PF like Haslem, Thomas, Najera and even CV (more of a SF but he rebounds very well)

Fan favorite? I think every REAL magic fan would agree that dwight, turk, and shard are the fan favorites. arroyo sucks, hes the 9th man.

IMO, people we could use. (and have a chance to get)

Udonis Haslem
Mike Miller
Charlie V

I dont think anyone else thats a feasible trade will help us get past the pistons or celtics.

If we can't get anyone mentioned in this thread so far...I'd rather do nothing

but ridding ourselves of Arroyo and Garrity would be ideal

Whether or not you like Arroyo, he puts a lot of butts on the seats.
