All Things Magical and AllStar: Offical ASW Thread

Post#1 » by damo[23] » Fri Feb 15, 2008 1:12 pm

Well, I thought I might aswell make a offical thread for us to use to discuss All Star Weekend. Ofcourse our very own Dwight Howard is the starting center for the East, and looking to over come the snubs from last year in the Dunk Contest 2008.

I'll start off a thread with the Dunk Contest, interesting little blog over on NBA.com found at http://my.nba.com/forum.jspa?forumID=400035347. Nique has a nice little thing to say about Dwight, for me this is the first time I've seen 1 of the judges admitting that they were wrong last year.

NBA.com: Speaking of which we have Dwight Howard in the contest who is 6-11, nearly seven feet tall. Is that a disadvantage for him because people will think he is so tall and well he is tall he should be able to dunk?
Dominique Wilkins: Well, sometimes it can be but even a guy at that height, you look at Larry Nance who was in the Slam Dunk Contest who a 6-10, 6-11 guy who won it. It depends on his creativity, Larry Nance was very creative. Dwight Howard comes out with same attitude and skills as far as doing something different, he can definitely win. You look at the dunk he did last year, it was a great dunk. I just missed it because it happened so quickly.

NBA.com: Is that the sticker dunk you are talking about?
Dominique Wilkins: Yes

NBA.com: What was your initial reaction to that?
Dominique Wilkins: I thought it was a great dunk because he got up pretty high but I missed the sticker. So afterwards I was like, "Wow, that was a 50."

More on the other dunkers in the field and a little bit more on Dwight over at that blog.

For now this will be the "Offical AllStar Weekend Thread", but I'll see if we will need a 2nd for the rest of the weekend [obviously this is the staging thread for the dunk contest].

I think that in order to prevent screwing Dwight (or anyone) the dunk contest shouldnt have eliminations. These guys practice for it and all the fans want to see ALL their dunks. I think they should give everyone 4 dunks or so and may the best score win....

My guess is Moon and Dwight in the final this year...

We should make a fake wiretap article about Dwight being traded to the Raptors, with the whole of Canada behind him [who all seem to post on the general boards] he cant fail to win!

HAPPY B-DAY THIEF!

I just got off the phone with MJ and Nique who said they will make sure Dwight wins the Dunk contest as a B-Day present to you

I'm worried about the public deciding this one. Moon has a massive advantage as the Canadians will vote in strength.

I heart NBA All-Star Weekend. There are always people who complain about this and that, but I really do enjoy watching the events each night.

I used to love Allstar Weekend when I was a kid. I don't really care these days. The players of today don't have the magical effect the guys did back when MJ played. I can only cheer for Magic guys. I'll check out Dwight in the dunk contest, and when he's screwed again I'll turn the channel.
You look confused...let me fill you in.

Do you realize how few Canadians exist? And not that many follow basketball.

I'll admit, for me, it's kind of strange - but in a good way. I'm older as well, but All-Star weekend still grabs my attention the same way it did when I was a kid.

Same with MLB All-Star weekend. I really enjoy it, just like I always did. Something about these two weekends just makes me feel like a kid again, I guess. Hell, I spent a day coming up with new ideas for a new avatar and sig to use for the weekend (while at work).

Meh, I won't at all complain. I hope I continue to enjoy these events as long as I can. Lord knows message boards have made me jaded when it comes to my favorite teams. I remember back when the Magic went 50-32 during Penny's rookie year...I was ecstatic all the way through. Now, our current team is on pace to possibly win 50 games and half the time I'm bitching and moaning like the rest of us here.

Right on man...I don't care if half the time we're seeing the same show as years past...we only get to see this stuff once a year, and I love it.

As far as the game goes i would much rather see turk in an east uniform than rasheed wallace! Also on another note... i think its going to be ashame Vince Carter isnt playing in the game! I know he has had a so so season but i would way rather since Vince than Richard Hamilton in the team!
