Why 4 Memphis: To save money. Both Garrity and Dooling expire at the end of the season while Brian Cardinal, perhaps their worst contract, is on the books for two seasons after this. It's also no secret that Cardinal's departure is among the top priorities for a front office trying to shave salary and rebuild around Rudy Gay and Mike Connely. Lowry is the necessary sacrifice for such a deal to occur.

Why 4 Orlando: In a relatively weak east Orlando has a very legitimate chance of playing for the trophy this year. However, they are still heavy underdogs against the West elite. While a talented PF would be the optimal trade return, the price for anything reasonble simply dosnt fit into Orlando's short or long term plans.
Adding a player of Artests caliber, while giving up nothing other than seldom used players and, presumably, a late first rd. pick is a coup. Artest will join a dynamic starting unit of, Howard, Turk, Lewis and Nelson. His perimeter defense, versaitility and hustle would compliment the team perfectly. While the additional salary of Cardinal might be a minor blight in the future, the chance to win a championship supercedes any financial hangover.

Why 4 Sacramento: The Bibby trade signified what many believed needed to happen; A team overhaul. Or more like a cleansing of the tenured group of high priced players, i.e. Bibby, Abdur Rahim, Miller and possibly Artest. The young core of the Kings is exceptional, especially on the wings, but the loss of Bibby leaves a major hole at PG. Lowry, while still mostly unproven, is a very skilled young PG who if developed could become a mainstay for Sacramento. Between Lowry, another 1st rd. pick and the immediate savings, Sacramento gets a solid return on a player who might leave after this season anyways.

well now this would make us even more thin in the front court... how would dwight ever get a rest... just because we get an upgrade in the back court doesnt me you can trade one of the only people not afraid of contact on the magic...

Foyle is a rough and tough interior defender, not to mention our only legitimate backup big. He's virtually untradeable.

No. You can't trade future first round picks, but once a pick is passed, it's no longer a "future" pick. So yes, we could trade our pick this year if we chose to.

While I realize that a deal such as this is more than likely contingent on Orlando aquiring a PF to add to the roster, Orlando still has enough moveable assets to do so; i.e. Reddick, Battie (one year remaing) and Arroyo (expiring).

Artest would be dynamic in Orlando, he would add a hard nosed toughness that the team needs. His ability to play three postions, including SG, make him invaluable.

Also, am I missing something here on Foyle? He averages less than 2 points per game, 3 rebounds and hasnt played more than 19 minutes in a game all season. In fact he averages just 9 minutes per game this year. While Im sure his inside toughness is valued, do you really believe that either a.) you wont be able to find a better replacement for him, or b) that Artest isn't worth a hell of alot more to the Magic than Foyle?

We are 37 hours away from the trade deadline and the team hasn't made a deal since November. It might be a stretch for them to get another center. Plus, you want the best defender amongst the Magic guards. I fail to see how that improves the defense. Foyle doesn't get a lot of minutes because Dwight is the Magic's most effective center. If the Magic traded Foyle, they wouldn't have another center, and they already are playing a small forward at power forward out of necessity. It's a good idea for Howard to be playing 48 minutes every night? What if he fouls out or gets in foul trouble?

News flash: nothing about Ron Artest is logical!

Trading Foyle will be a killer in the Magic's effort to sign future Free Agents. THis is simply not the kind of thing classy teams do to classy players./
