How lucky are we to have SVG?

Post#1 » by knappy » Wed Feb 20, 2008 5:28 am

This guy is a phenomenal coach - what luck Donovan not being available. He certainly knows how to get the most out of his players and he is turning Howard into a beast.

Give SVG a decent power forward and he'll turn him into a stud. We still need a PF, but SVG gets the most of his players.

It is so refreshing with SVG - just loving every word out of his mouth - compared to the nightmare in BHill - nice guy in NJ who I absolutely hated what was coming out of his mouth.

SVG is pulling this team back together and I think we may get a big to help finish out the season and not give up much - I'd like to see Arroyo and Garrity go.

Love SVG -- he just has to be careful he doesn't push too hard. There is a fine line there.

a coach is only as good as his players.

That's true. But it's also true that some teams have some perfectly fine players but they don't play as well for a particular coach. Next coach comes in and gets that same group of players to a title. (See Lakers between the firings of Del Harris and the hiring of Phil Jackson.)

i'm pretty sure SVG has nothing to do with the beastness of d12.

SVG is good though, so was hill, i had no problem with him either. get the players and win.

ESPN continues trying to stir things up. Chris Brossard reported that if Stan continues criticizing Dwight that he will lose him. ESPN :nonono: .

Stan is a great coach and we are lucky to have him. LMAO at oak saying Brian Hill is a good coach.

IIRC, Broussard was one who didn't pick the Magic to make the playoffs. Also, he's critized Dwight once, Dwight as much as agreed with the criticism, Dwight has certainly responded well, and SVG just gave Dwight the biggest praise in a game where Dwight was statistically subpar.

I don't think ESPN has an "agenda", but I am disappointed that they can't do NBA coverage as well as they do NFL coverage.

Oh, and I disagree entirely with oakfan's take on coaching. I think the most obvious difference is the SVG's freedom on offense, particularly with the 3 point shot - that has directly correlated to either Dwight getting better looks or the team taking advantage of Dwight's double teams.

One could also make a point that his freedom on offense leads to neglect of unguardable d12. also, don't a lot of people complain that guys take too many threes on the team, like whipping boys bogans and dooling?
also, im not sure how people could say a guy coaching IN THE NBA is bad coach. he must be doing something right, especially to have a 2nd chance with a team... That must make otis a bad gm for hiring him. if the magic go out in the first round again, what would be the difference between svg and hill?

Entertainment and hope.

1) Movement 2) Application of fundamentals 3) Predictability

You should be banned or checked for sanity if you think Brian Hill was good - you are kidding right? Brian Hill was good just like Pat Garrity is good now.

BHill = Pat Garrity (actually Pat is greater and that is scary)

SVG = Dwight Howard (actually SVG may even exceed Superman - scary)
