Smith Afraid To Trade Arroyo

Orlando Sentinel
Magic GM Otis Smith said Wednesday that teams have inquired about the club's point-guard situation, but Smith is not inclined to make a deal before today's 3 p.m. deadline. The Magic are leery of trading Carlos Arroyo, who has fallen out of the rotation behind Jameer Nelson and Keyon Dooling. "I'd be afraid of somebody getting hurt, having only two point guards," he said.
Smith said the Magic have been looking for another big man but he'd be "surprised" if anything develops.
"We could use another big, but there's just not a lot out there that makes sense for us, to make you want to do anything," Smith said. " ... I think we'll have our same team to go to the end of the season."
Florida TodayTo put it bluntly, Smith likes the Magic team he constructed, and feels it is talented enough as is to be an elite team in the Eastern Conference.
Smith did admit he's had preliminary trade talks with the Seattle SuperSonics about power forwards Kurt Thomas and Chris Wilcox, but said nothing is imminent on that front. He also said there was no truth to a rumor the Magic were interested in Sacramento's Brad Miller, adding the Kings "only want one thing off my roster and that's (Hedo Turkoglu). Turk has matured into the player they thought he could be when they drafted him. But of course we're not doing that deal."
Looks like we will be championship contenders by March!

If Otis moves Arroyo, he has to get another point guard back.
That's plain and simple.
We will see what happens.
Who knows.. Maybe the Magic acquire Anthony Johnson at the deadline like they did 8 years ago.

Afraid to trade Arroyo? You've got to be kidding me. This guy is looking for any excuse not to make a trade.

its actually smart by otis to be doing this ... after all we all know jameer goes down once or twice a season.... and that fall last night was scary for him. there is no way we can have only two pg's.
and yes hopefully he is trying to possibly aquire watson/ridonur and wilcox

KingRobb spun the title. What it's saying is that Otis is afraid not to have a backup point guard.
Think of it this way: we trade Arroyo in a package to get a 4 and get no PG back. A game later Jameer gets injured again.
We'd have Dooling start, and who'd back him up?
The board would be grilling Otis for not leaving us a backup PG. Then again the board will be grilling him if he doesn't make a move.
The life of an Orlando Magic GM - darned if you do; darned if you don't.

Hesitant to trade Arroyo - give me a break - that had better be posturing - give anyone and eveyone Arroyo and Garrity - give me a break, but I think Seattle wants more than just Garrity and Arroyo for Wilcox - they may want a draft pick. WE NEED A PF.

we can always pick up a vet PG at the minimimum as insurance or get someone as part of the trade at the very least if not something else

What Ive been saying all along. We will not trade any of our pgs if we dont one in return. you simply cant go into playoffs with only 2 pgs. plain and simple.
He has do pull a miracle to make a trade with just Garrity and Augustine.
Its looking more and more like we will have what we have.

This is such BS. He's not going to get any defensive help for Dwight and let the contracts expire. There's not going to be much cap flexibility after the deadline passes.

No. He's afraid of Jameer getting hurt and having only 1 other player on the roster capable of playing the point.

I'm not afraid to trade Arroyo and I'm also not afraid to cut, I mean trade Garrity - they can hire me for one day - he is gone.

So you're not afraid of Jameer getting injured again?

As opposed to not having anyone that can truly play power forward? Makes sense to me.
IF he doesn't like what he gets back then fine but if you are passing on getting a solid power forward so you can keep a backup to a backup PG he needs his head examined.

You can't go into playoffs with only 2 PGs, yet you can go into the playoffs with 1 big man ? I'm confused.
God bless Howard, if he does get an injury, we'll be doomed.

imo, the backups we have at PF (Cook, Foyle, Garrity and even Auggie in limited usage) are more capable than having Evans, KeBo or JJ being backup PGs.
