Money real reason no trade made

When Otis gave Rashard the keys to the city there was a question is would Rashard's contract hamper the Magic from improving the roster in the future. After the trade deadline is there any question that we just got our first taste of life after Rashard.

Here is the reality. The Magic have 8 players signed at 57 million dollars next year. A trade of expiring contracts would have jumped the Magic on the threshold of the luxury tax next year if not thrown them right over. Therefore no shock that the biggest name being discussed before the trade deadline was for the expiring Kurt Thomas. Even a trade for a 7 to 8 million dollar player would have forced the Magic to fill almost half there roster while being above the luxury tax. Oh yeah after next year Hedo can become a free agent.

Otis spending spree in the offseason is the biggest factor in todays lack of moves. Forget Rashard, even if he had held off on paying Jameer, today would have likely been different. Who knows perhaps Gasol, or Kidd are members of the Magic with expirings and young players like Jameer, JJ, and Fran to dangle in a trade.

``I have to keep some kind of flexibility for the franchise,

Savor this moment richboy, 90% of posters agree with you. And yea, maybe you should've posted this in the 3 other threads dealing with this.

i dont know if its 100% shard but i guess another way to see if otis misssed an opportunity is to see whens the last time a team had this much money in expirings contracts and was not looking to get under teh cap and didnt make a move

i guess im part of that ten percent. you guys are naive. is it not how obvious how rashard helps us and ya it might be a little too much but if we didnt give it to him someone else would have, then everyone on this board wourl be whining about how some other team got the FA and otis sat on his butt. this is ridiculous, someone needs to do something about all these threads we have complaining.

 I meant this part, of course I agree with the Rashard signing. I shouldn't skip through posts like that.

oh and who exactly could we have gotten that would have killed our salary anyways? its already been stated brad miller was a no go unless we gave hedo. so what? were not paying rashard his money so we just get another star like that at the trade deadline. No it doesnt happen that way, we wouldve had to trade people on the team like hedo and more to get a guy of shards caliber. We couldve gotten a nice bunch of free agent crap like we have in the past. ya it sucks that we didnt get a trade done, but its not shards fault.

The same baseless, unsubstantiated, no proof for defense of that signing. Theres not a shred of evidence that anyone offered anywhere near the same mone and repeating it over and over again won't make it true.

You can call for all threads to be locked and get it but theres too many complexities and side issue to this no trade moment to stick everything under the Official Hate Otis thread. this has to do with Shard's contract and how it will continue to cause us to not progress as his escalating contract eats into our cap.

I agree with the Rashard signing too, but letting 13 mil (something like that) just expire when there were so many borderline allstars available is unacceptable. No one who talks about a championship as much as Otis can like this team.

Man richboy i agree with you word for word bro.

In his quotes he is clearly saying that the reason we didnt make a deal was because of money, and not because of any lack of deals.

Some people are saying well nobody knows what was out there for sure, nobody knows what kind of deals were going on, and Otis stood still because there wasnt anything out there.

Well guess what...He just said it was about the money.

All we have from here on out is the MLE and even that is a maybe with our ownership.

I'm glad this hasn't degenerated into hate on Shard...

I 150% agree with PimpORL...Otis Smith just blew a massive opportunity for this team.....We'll be talking about how huge in the playoffs....

Now that I agree with, lol. It would be different if we were really wanting to resign them, but c'mon, its Arroyo, Dooling, and Garrity. They are hardly fixtures on a team. Evans I can understand, but not the others. We let an oppportunity pass us by.

I can pump out all the evidence i need to make this make sense but it wont matter cause kids like you are so bitter that our gm signed a good player this off season and there werent any good offers to take now and jeopardized the team. I wish we couldve gotten someone too but the reality is we didnt so stop complaining about our projected 51 win team we have. Oh and i can say the same about you you know Mr. Evidence

For one, you may have all the reason in the world but you lose it the moment you start giving arguments like "kids like you".
Secondly, I'd like people to stop talking about "our 50 wins team". Let the season finish and let the playoffs come to fully understand our real value, ok? I hope we do get over 50 wins and I hope we can get to the conference semi-finals at least. But we have to wait to see it.

And to clear things out for you, I usually (like 99% of the time) don't quite agree with maginno nor richboy posts.

So there was a deal out there that YOU KNOW was available to the Magic and would have won them a championship and they just didn't make it? Look, I really was hoping that they could have dealt Garrity's contract for something, preferably as part of a deal for a power forward. But it must show you just how bad he is that the Magic spent four years trying to deal that guy and never could do it. Not even for a second-round pick or anything? And guess what....Otis didn't sign him to that deal. Perhaps they would prefer to try to keep Dooling and maybe Evans OR Arroyo and maybe they have someone in mind that they hope to lure with the MLE?? Plus, Bogans was not guaranteed to be an expiring for any team.

Yah know thats the way to do it!!!

Things are clearly wrong, yet we should just sit back, lay down, and accept it.

I dunno about you but i stand for what i believe in, and if that means i have to complain then so be it!!

Our GM screws up and makes the wrong moves while having everyone under this hypnosis of his master plan and creative financing and to top it off our ownership is being stingy about money and isnt willing to put out.

We had cap space, a superstar, young talent, tradable assets...And its pretty much all blown and you are essentially looking at the final product right now.

Where did I say "we're screwed"? Don't put words in my mouth, please. I said, and I repeat it, that we lost our best chance of using valuable assets to at least improve some glaring holes (or one, as I expected). We are still the third best record in the east right now and I want us to improve. And that's why I believe we dodged a great chance to do.

But where, WHERE did I stated that we would contend by doing a move with our expirings? Stop finding excuses and read my posts like I write them.
