Looking towards NBA draft prospects

Post#1 » by Kid50 » Fri Feb 22, 2008 2:42 am

Looking towards the 2008 NBA draft and with our suspect scouting, I created a list of prospects according to position that i'd like to see the Magic take a look at that should be available at our possible spot in the middle of the draft. MY picks are:

PG: Jeremy Pargo 6'2" 219 lb - Gonzaga (junior)
SG: Shan Foster 6'6" 205 lb - Vanderbilt or
J.R. Giddens 6'5" 205 lbs - New Mexico (transferred from Kansas after sophmore year)
SF: Deron Washington 6'7" 205 lb - Virginia Tech (athleticism / defender)
PF: Kentrell Gransberry 6'9" 270 lb - South Florida (rebounding )
C: Hasheem Thabeet 7'3" 260 lb - Connecticut (sophmore)

I would like to see the Magic get one of these guys if not in the draft into camp as a free agent. Any other favorite prospects that we could reasonably have a chance of getting?

J. Pargo is obviously gonna be a role player somewhere else and will quickly become a magic killer.
His name doesn't fool anyone.

i think it be smart to draft a pg and sign free agent pf instead of drafting a pf cause with a lower draft pick we wont get a pf who is ready to play

Doesn't matter. We are going to select some person who is either European & doesn't come over or college proven but an obvious miss for the NBA.

I have no idea if Janero and this guy are related, but anyone named Pargo should be feared by the Magic.

OMG, two Pargos brothers? We need to draft him just not to let another team get him or we will be doomed!
It's a conspiracy against the Magic.

A couple questions regarding prospects (kind of)

Wayne Simien, where is he now?
Elton Brown, does he belong to a team?
Nick Fazekas, wasn't he supposed to be good?

Why are none of these guys being claimed?

DJ Augustin is the exact guy we will draft...just you watch...

for my money there are only 3 or 4 decent PG's in the draft, and im not even sold on Rose...Bayless, Beabois, Gordon and Ty Lawson...Bayless is out of the question, but i'd put all my chips on Gordon or Lawson a the 2nd best PG's in the draft and Beabois will be a good player too, and i'd take him if the others werent available...

I don't know guys, I'm really really high on DJ Augustin. He reminds me way more of a TJ Ford then a Jameer Nelson. He's a much better passer and doesn't really look for his shot as much as Jameer does. Of course we'd still be small defensively at the PG position, but if we get a defensive minded SG for the MLE(or resign Evans to start) then it could probably work(especially if Battie is healthy and starts at PF).

I would happily take him with our pick around #20. I also really like Shan Foster, I think he can be a very good player and has range for days, while being taller and pretty good defender.

I can't believe it's taken this long for someone to start a thread on this.

Is there anyone decent to draft this year? If you listen to the reports on college basketball, the only guys they ever talk about are Derrick Rose, Michael Beasley and Tyler Hansbrough (and I'm not even sure that guy will be good in the NBA). Not much hype at all for college players in the draft this year. Doesn't make it sound like there will be many good players available this season, which is always bad news when you're talking about Magic drafts.

Whoever they draft, they had better make sure Van Gundy wants to play him. Otherwise, just trade the pick for someone who can help right away who Van Gundy will play. I'm sick of watching guys sit on the bench because the coach doesn't want to play him.
