Great game. Memphis' poor free throw shooting was the difference.

I wanted Tennessee to win before I placed a small amount of money on Memphis. oh well...

Tennessee was getting 6 points, an insanely large spread for a game with teams that good. I won some money on Tennessee, even though I was not all that sure they would win.

Knew Tennessee would win, didn't think Memphis would hold that well though.

I'm pretty sure it is an old war reference. Possibly the Civil War.

You're right ... from Wiki

Tennessee is known as the "Volunteer State" for the overwhelming, unexpected number of Tennesseans who volunteered for duty in the American Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Texas Revolution (most notably the Battle of the Alamo) and especially the Mexican-American War, as well as an overwhelming number of citizens volunteering for both sides of the Civil War.
