Gilbert Arenas

Before you go lambasting me with eye rolls and laughter, hear me out.
Gilbert Arenas is not the typical NBA star. He seems to value team chemistry as much as anything else. He plays the game to win AND HAVE FUN DOING IT.
He has said numerous times that he will opt out. He has also said he would take less money to join a contender. Do I think he will? Doubtful, but this is my point: when talking about Gilbert Arenas, you can't count anything out. He is so quirky that he may just take the MLE somewhere, just to do it and be different and be talked about. He truly is an odd duck.
Most conjecture that he will just stay in DC. I disagree. As previously mentioned, he loves to have fun with his teammates. However, this season, since he has been out, the Wizards are different. They seem more Piston-esque in their approach, the kind of "kill them quietly" mentality. This seems to be lead by Caron Butler. Does Gilbert fit into that mentality? Quiet and Agent Zero have never been seen in the same room.
Would he come to Orlando? If we had caproom, we should be all abuzz with the notion. He and Otis continue to be extremely close from their GS days, where Otis was Gilbert's mentor. He would thrive on a team like Orlando, with the make-up we have. A young, fun-loving big man who isn't quite ready to step up and be option #1. A quiet, care-free swingman star who thrives from the outside and has no problem being complimentary. He would not doubt relish the notion of joining a young up and coming team and pushing them into Championship contention.
How would he join the team? Well, as previously mentioned, though it is a long shot, there is the MLE. But more likely a necessity would be a sign and trade. Would Otis do it? I think the only star Otis would take on salary for would be Gilbert. Would a deal of Hedo and Jameer get it done? Would you do that? For a former MVP candidate, I should hope so.
Thoughts on the matter?

MLE = Gilbert Arenas ? ? ? ? ?
Let the Blasting begin...
No Seriously, Gilberts "I'll take less money speech" is nonsense. The guy is a businessman. He has ventures outside of Basketball that the MLE can't and won't support.
Although I'd love to see him in a Magic uniform, the chances are none to slim. Ha, and like pops always said.....and slim left town.
Edited-
Althoough it would be a dream to trade Jameer+Redick+Cook+Fran+couple first rounders for Gilbert but....it's just a dream

I wont deny that he'd be a big improvement over Nelson at the PG position, he's better all around points, assists, rebounds and steals, he plays better defense, he does lead the league in turnovers when he's active...which is where the big negative comes in...in order to be effective he has to have the ball...which could and would present major problems...
as for his chemistry, idk man...i'm not a fan, not matter how much you try and justify his statement and his personally, i just dont get it...
however should the opportunity arise, and we're able to get him locked up for a good price, and Dwight/Lewis/SVG are cool with it, you kind of have to take it...
i'd just prefer to have a guy that focuses more on basketball than blogging (this comment will get me destroyed by browsing Wiz fans)

Just say no to Gilbert, or any other move that completely overhauls our team. You think Dwight has trouble getting the ball now? Just imagine if we had Arenas.

If Arenas is such a team guy as an all-star how come Washington is just as good without him as with him?

well that's because they have plenty of other good talent...Caron/Jamison/Daniels/Blatche are no slouches...

I say we offer him LLE next year, we're trying to be financially responsible after all.

Gilbert is the blueprint for exactly the kind of point guard we DON'T need. How do we justify getting yet another shoot-first PG to upgrade our already mediocre shoot-first PG?

Speaking of the shoot first/scoring ability:
Gilbert > Jameer + Arroyo + Dooling + pi

Couldn't agree more. I don't have anything against the guy as he is a great success story but I don't think he would be the kind of guard we need.

And yet you are OK with this team having a player at the point who is a much worse distributor than Gil. At least with Arenas we would have a bonafide crunch time scorer.

Since when does Gilbert and distributor deserve to be in the same sentence.
He is a low assist, high turnover and bad shot taker kind of player.

He has averaged 28 point and 6 assists over the last 3 years compared to Nelson's 12 and 4. I'm sorry if I prefer production from a player who is only a month older than Jameer.

Lol, then let Howard never see the ball again, as Arenas shoots 90% of the time. I mean wow, 28 points and 6 assists. 6 assists for a guy who played 40 minutes a game and had the ball in his hands the whole time. The guy has never had a better than 2:1 Asst/TO ration in any season. Thats like saying you would rather have Francis since he averaged 7apg for us that one year, along with the 4TOs.
Does anyone really think scoring is a problem with this team? If not, then I see no reason why Arenas needs to be on this team. Especially considering he would only take low % shots, and turn it over when he tries to pass.

I gotta say that I would not. Rashard is proving to be EXTREMELY valuable and if you wanted him to score 24 points a game consistently, then he could. The guy is way more valuable to this team then a lot of people realize. He is very unselfish and does what it takes for the team to get a win (ala his 3 block game against the Kings). Rashard is playing very well on the defensive end and is shooting at a fairly high percentage.
You bring in Gilbert and all we have is a younger slightly better version of Francis......no thanks, I'll keep the 118 million dollar man!
