In the third game he has dress for, Marcin Gortat saw his first ever NBA action.
CONGRATS!
In 2 minutes played, he has a very nice boxscore:
1-1 in shooting for 2 points, 1 rebound, and 1 foul.
Well done.
From today's O-Sen:
Gortat shows improvement
Van Gundy said he has been pleased with the progress of rookie C Marcin Gortat, who played in the German League last season. Gortat, 6-11, 240 pounds, has not played in a game this season, and dressed for just the third time Saturday night. "He's done well," Van Gundy said.p

Make way for the new bandwagon
But, seriously, he may be useful in the playoffs if the Magic need to keep Dwight out of foul trouble and guard bigs who play euro style like Bosh or Bargs if they face Toronto.

Im guessing Schmitz and Denton either wrote their stories before the game or they left early because they both said that Gortat didnt play.......

yes I appreciate his 2 points in our BLOWOUT win, without those we might have lost it
but seriously I hope he gets more chances...I truly believe he is MUCH better than Auggie

"He's done well," Van Gundy said.
It looks like we won't see Marcin play again. Remember back in early January when Auggie had been seeing pretty regular action. SVG was asked about him, and said, "Every time he's been in he's played hard and played well. " Then said that was how one got playing time. Auggie promptly reverted to DNPCD until he was put in a suit.

Gortat definitely can be an intimidating presence if he chooses to be. The one time a player came at him on defense he seemed kind of soft allowing the basket and picking up the foul. That was kind of disappointing. On offense he had a nice move to score....however he performed that move on the fattest, most out of shape center in the league...who was already gassed out of his mind.
Still I like him and hope he continues to improve

i say activate him for every game against a team that has a great big (celtics, spurs, raptors, etc.) so that there is another body out there if anyone gets into foul trouble so we dont have to go small

With Auggie out the door this offseason, The Warlock can be a hell of a piece to this team.

James doesn't have to leave, he can just take Garrity's place on the bench when he leaves in the offseason. The Magic will be stacked with bigs come next season if Fran decides to come over.
Dwight
Battie
Foyle (player option, no reason to think he won't be back)
Fran
Cook
Warlock
James
All these guys will be backing up Dwight and whatever PF we have on the floor at the time....come to think of it, we may have to drop Augustine with all these big guys.

I really like what Gortat brings. He's a big body who loves to take contact and block shots. I think he definitely should be one of our backups of the future.
If you think about it, we really wont have a frontcourt problem Next year. So yes.. as its been said before, our MLE should go to a SG or PG, and that department should be cleaned up.
Dwight/Foyle/Gortat
Battie/Cook/Fran or Draft
Lewis/Evans
Hedo/JJ
Nelson/Dooling/FA

The 118-92 trouncing of the Knicks was big news in Poland because rookie Marcin Gortat, the 7-footer who had been on the Magic's inactive list for 59 of their first 61 games, made his regular-season debut in the closing minutes and spun past Eddy Curry for a layup on his first field-goal attempt.
"I was just praying for them to take a (large enough) lead that I could get into the game and just touch the ball," said Gortat, who estimated he received 20 phone messages from people back home immediately after the game. "And when (Van Gundy) came to me and grabbed my arm, I said, 'This is it.' That's what I was working 61 games for -- getting ready for this day."
Gortat sat next to assistant coach Patrick Ewing for most of the game and said he paid attention to what the former Knicks great had to tell Dwight Howard about how to be most effective against Curry.
"I came in and had so much energy and so much adrenalin that I had a lot of confidence," he said.
Gortat is the only native of Poland currently playing in the NBA and the third in league history.
