at this point last year we were 28-33...that's a 10 game improvement...everyone who doesn't like otis needs to look at the facts... he fired brian hill who none of us could stand and hired stan van gundy (plan b)...yeah he signed rashard for a lot more than he is worth but he got the best free agent possible, and yeah he let darko walk but look at the stats darko is putting up this year on a team that has 14 wins, yeah it's what he was putting up last year here and he's starting, definitely not worth the money he wanted...he brought in a big body in adonal foyle to cover up for the loss of battie, he took a lot of heat for the ariza trade but look at how that worked out...he tried to get kurt thomas but san antonio's offer was better, and i'm sure he will do something this summer that will improve on what we have so far which is a team that loves to play together and is currently 15 games over .500. so every single otis hater needs to lay off the guys nuts

The magics success this year doesnt mean Otis is a good GM.

Rashard and Nelsons contracts are SO damn idiotic.

I like the team, no doubt, but Otis makes bad business decisions.

Otis is riding Weis and Dwights coattails.

And by the way, isnt Darko exactly the kind of player we need right now?

He is putting up mediocre stats because he has no help and is a focal point. If he was playing with Dwight he would be right.

Hardly. He has a coach that should have a game plan that Darko would fit into, and he's not doing anything wonderful. He has a SG that everyone (and I think you also) are craving to get in Miller. There's young talent on the squad and he's done nada.

When Gasol was there, Darko was in his shadow. Now that Gasol is gone, Darko has no help? Gay, Lowry, Juan Carlos, Warrick.

Darko doesn't seem to have the mentality to fully utilize he talents. From reports he was just a not so good apple - from (iirc) missing practice and blowing off team functions.

I am one of those people who is a bit angry with Otis right now for not making a move at the trade deadline. We had assets and could have gotten a decent player for 50 cents on the dollar, but Otis didn't pull the trigger - I think it was a big mistake. Now in the summer if we make a move we have to give up a $1 for a $1. That was a huge mistake especially when we have such a need for a strong PF.

The team has improved quite a bit and Lewis was a good pickup - it appears that we over paid, but Otis didn't want to take a chance at losing him.

Darko should have been signed the year before or he should have been traded for something - it was a mistake to just let him walk for nothing in return.

Firing Brian - finally he got fired, but come on - it took too long to fire the guy - I would have fired him at the All star break and I was screaming for it - I think Dwight may have had a play in that whole thing, but I do think Otis had a play.

The team is a lot better, but that doesn't excuse boneheaded moves - the trade deadline no move was idiotic at best. We could have competed with anyone, now we are not strong enough to go up against the best - we will give up too big a rebounding differential against top tier teams - Dwight can't do it all himself.

SVG was brilliant and I was all for Billy Donovan - and I don't fault Otis for the Billy D fiasco at all. SVG, I think is a better pick up for us and I think we were lucky Billy D walked as I am thoroughly impressed with SVG.

I am mixed on Otis. I was a pretty strong supporter of him and now I am skeptical with his no move at the trade deadline and comments like I can't trade Arroyo or JJ. Come on. We probably could have gotten Wilcox for Garrity and either Arroyo or Augustine and either JJ or a future first round pick that would be a late pick and his contract right now is just under $7 m.

Gotta disagree with u there man. In theory Darko would be a good fit. but we saw him last year, 8 & 8 is what your gonna get. Its not like he's lighting it up every night in Memphis. On top of that, he wanted way more money than what he was worth. Even further still, we all saw that video where he was acting like a child cursing everyone out. I don't want some immature baby on my squad. Darko is a bust, and i'm glad Otis saw it

It doesn't matter whether anyone likes or dislikes Smith.

He's done some good things, and done some not so good things.

As long as the Magic are winning his job is safe regardless of our collective opinions. His rumored contract extension is proof of that.

Additionally, had we kept Darko, would he be starting? If so would Turk be knocking it out of the box as he is if he's coming of the bench?

You have to understand that Otis did not put this team together...

He inherited it, and he inherited it in a hell of a position...Young talent, cap space, expirings, 3 lottery picks...Yet he has exhausted all of his assets with a bunch of bad business decisions.

Kind of like when Dungy left the Bucs and Gruden inherited a super bowl team, and Gruden got all the credit.

that's a considerable amount of pieces that have been added by Otis, 2 in particular being starters. and whether you want to credit all the bench guys or not, there's no denying that all guys have played there role in the Magic compiling their current record, which is a 10 game improvement on last year.

but if you want to play the game that Gabe begat Weis, who begat Otis, who will begat.... then go right ahead. but it's pointless IMO. Otis has put his stamp on the team. and we're winning.

Dooling came he The year after Moblie was traded so he is Otis. Wes was fired by the time Dooling was signed. Bogans was traded by Wes if i'm correct snd later signed by Otis. After the Stevison situation.

I did bash Otis cuz he didnt make a deadline move. Guilty. I am not gonna stop chirping til I see him draft the BPA or atleast fill a F***IN need and pick up a decent MLE player. Im just sick of his draft night moves. I hope he steps up instead of drafting a no show euro or seldom used 2 guard.

otis has made some good decisions, and some not so good decisions..the future looks good for the magic, lets just hope he can find a way to upgrade the back court
