Mickael Pietrus Mid Level?

Do you guys think ...
1.He would take our Mid level exception?
(he may think hes worth more but he did say he would like to be somewhere close to the Caribbean)
2.We should use it on him?
The way i see it looking back at past drafts getting a decent quality backup Big in the first round is not that hard its not as much of a crap shoot as PG SG SF so if we take the best available Bigs in round 1 and 2 and hope Fran comes to the US. We would have a good amount of Bigs (which ever make the roster) and an upgrade at the SG with Pietrus.
thoughts?

I think he's actually worth slightly under the MLE. Good player. If we could get him around 3 or 4 mil starting, it'd be a descent deal. I'd prefer to go after Childress to back up the 2/3 or even step in and start. My onl;y concern is his outside shot.

I want Childress too. He would be a perfect fit for the SG spot next season.

i think pietrus fits our system better he can shoot the 3 and he can play D he would be like a better version of Bogans and Evans.

i'll only take Pietrus if we re-sign Evans and Dooling and land a PF and another PG some how...so there would need to be a lot of work done to make it happen...and I dont think he's worth the full MLE myself, plus with him you have to think about injuries...

it depends on what we're going to do, what our primary focus is. If we're going for a 1 or 2 first and then working on a 4, i'd say go with a guy like Melvin Ely, not a starter, but gives quality minutes off the bench, move Cook to the reserve 3.
Dwight/Foyle
Shard/Ely
Hedo/Cook
if the 4 is your prime focus, Antwan Jamison and trickle down from there...

Draft day:
Our 1st and Bogans for Evans and Philly's 1st next year. ? They get expiring for Evans and maybe someone they like in the draft this year. We take a chance that maybe Philly is in the lotto next year.

Agreed. Unfortunately you can't divide the MLE up. Pietrus is nice but we have other needs.

Pietrus is not gonna go for the MLE. He didnt last offseason and he wont in the next one.

MP will probably end up in Dallas, Toronto or Cleveland...

Id be happy with getting MP if other things fell through.

This stat blew my mind. Talk about an efficient SG.
Top 5 FG% this season
1. Beidrens .622
2. Chandler .611
3. D.Howard .605
4.
Childress .588
5. Stoudemire .580

i should have been more clear. I meant his 3 ball. I like what he brings though. Good slasher, defense, gets to the line

i think childress would be a better addition than mp but neither would be worth the full mle... it will be interesting to see what sg's opt out also ... if we can attain an upgrade at the sg this way and draft a backup pg our team should be in a really good spot this offseason.
for all the otis hating going on this team could be a force next year.

What do you mean for all the Otis hating? Its great that this team could be a force next year. We are a force this year, but I'm not going to stop hating on Otis because of another "we coulde be next year". I think that should be Orlando's slogan every year.
On another note....does anyone honestly think that Otis was pressing to get any of the veterans that were picked up by the top contending teams recently: Jamal McGloire, PJ Brown, Cassel, Ratliff.
I will admit that I'm an Otis hater so I will say no he hasn't. But why can't we ever pick up a solid veteran off the wires like that. I didn't want Cassel or really McGloire, but Ratliff and Brown would have helped for sure. You can't tell me that no one wants to play here.

well to answer your question regarding the waived players, no, i dont think Otis went after any of them.
But for several reasons, many of the guys we might have had a shot at weren't really going to do much for us, guys like Flip would be a gamble I think. we already have so many guards, why just bring him in to bring him in? Magloire was a maybe, but for what we get from him, why not just try Gortat out? and if you look the majority of these guy went to "title contenders", they all for the most part had their destination picked out and probably never even thought of Orlando...
So I dont think you can really fault Otis there...deadline, yes, this year's waivers? no

Because those vets are chasing rings and signed with teams that have the best chance to do that this season.
If - I understand the implication of that word - we sign a pretty good player with the MLE, there's a possibility that the vets will be looking our way next season.

I understand that they are chasing rings, but we are a pretty solid team that has a chance to do some damage this year. I just think that we could really have used a guy like Ratliff for the playoffs.
I agree with Gortat thief. But Van Gundy would have to actually play him to see if he could help us out. And I don't think that is going to happen this year. I would probably play him over Foyle. I also agree that those players aren't going to do a whole lot, but they give us extra capable bodies just as they do that for the Pistons and Celtics now. Ya know.
