Miami Next year....

Post#1 » by magicfanejc42 » Tue Mar 11, 2008 4:14 am

So, I was just reading some box scores, and something popped up in my head...

Miami has Davis(Expiring) Williams(Expiring) Marion(Could opt)Wright(Could opt)

Which if all of the above happens they will have 32 mil spent....Which means they will most likely have about 28 mil in money to spend....

So, on top of having money galore they have a top 5 pick....

Miami could sign Iggy out of Phillt and Emeka or Josh Smith, while having money left over to spend on smaller FA's... they could draft Michael Beasley, and maybe do a S&t with Toronto for Calderon which would give Toronto about a 4-5 mil TE....Or just pick up ford for Quinn and Blount...

So if they work their summer right they could look like this..

Calderon/Ford
Wade
Iggy
Beasley
Okafor/Smith

So they could go from worst team to championship contendors in a year... Thats pretty troublesome for the Magic..Because we all know riley and he knows how to screw teams out of good players and is really focusing on improving their team through this summer right now..

not cool....

There is absolutely no way that team is a contender.....rookies do not have that big of an impact of championship contenders. You have to have veterans with playoff experience. That team would get rocked in the first round (ala the Magic since Shaq left).

They are definitly in full on tank mode. I think they will be a good team again next year though, i really hope they end up with the #4 pick. I hate it when teams do this.

It didn't work for Boston last year....I am really hoping it doesn't happen for the Heat this year. Not because of who they are, but the fact that I too hate it when teams do this.

Tanks never prosper, and Marion opting out would hurt them and they would likely re-sign him if he does. They will have money to spend, but nowhere near what you listed.

They prospered b/c they know how to be logical about their business of selecting and trading for the right players that best fit their system. Plus they had the same GM and coach for over a decade now.

The celtics were god awful last year but they're leading the NBA now. As the OP said, Riley has showed a few times he can screw other teams big time, sign big name players and improve a team's outlook very quickly.

Bring'em on anyway, it'll just make our now defunct rivalry interesting again.

I hope you're right, but we're talking about Pat Slimey here. The man is able to make impossible deals and rebuild completely a team in a single year.

He's talking about tankers the year they drafted Duncan. They shelved Robinson, & Elliott early in the year. Pop also left his coach (Bob Hill) out to dry that season, and swooped in to coach the team after the Duncan draft. All pretty shady... Ironically there were TWO tankers that season (BOS was the other... w/Pitino putting all of his eggs in Duncan's basket) & THAT worked out well. Billups/Mercer became a Celtics cornerstone for the next DECADE!!! or something...

Yeah, tanking worked pretty well for San Antonio. I'm not too worried about Michael Beasley. For some reason, his on court demeanor reminds me of Glenn Robinson and Derrick Coleman.

We heard very similar sentiments with the 03/04 team, which was spearheaded by Wade (rookie), Butler (2nd year player), & Odom.

That team was 7 secs shy of forcing a game 7 vs the best team in the East that season, and possibly a dvancing to the ECFs in their very 1st year together. -- Though, I'm not saying the team next year is going to be a title contender, but if the right pieces are added, you can never say.

One thing I will heavily agree on is the NEED of having veterans come playoff time, and being an essential part to any title team. The Spurs, Pistons, Bulls, Heat all had them when they won their titles, and they came up huge at the right of times.

--

As has already been said, Riley knows how to build teams, this year aside (as he's already aluded that he's failed his team gravely the past 2 years), he's always found a way to put the right pieces alongside his star players, whether it was in NY with Ewing or Miami here multiple of times.

Miami will have the cap room to supply Wade with some decent talent, now it's all up to the Basketball gods if they can bless us with the 1st pick.

First of all, I highly doubt Marion is going to opt out. I don't think he is stupid enough to believe he will get a contract that pays him more then he is going to make next season. Second of all why the hell would Toronto trade Calderon? From checking out the Raptor's board is looks like they think he will be kept while Ford is the one that is moved, IF they make any pg move at all.

The Celts tried to tank and ended up with the 5th pick. They may have prospered, but not because they tanked.

And, he's HAWT!

I'd be happy if they even got third pick. doesn't look to be a very deep draft . Don't know how we can argue they won't be anything with a rookie talented PF. We don't have a true PF of any sort now. I don't see Marion opting out. He has to know he's got a promising situation there with Wade and possibly Beasley on the way.

He would be an idiot if he didn't . He has 17 mil guaranteed for next season . If he opts out he will get another contract with alot more guaranteed money . He could get something like a 5yr/ 50 mil contract at least . Now I ask you would you rather have 17 mil guaranteed or 50 mil guaranteed ?
