OT: Vicious Dog Pack Attack on a Florida Gator

Post#1 » by drsd » Mon Mar 17, 2008 9:12 am

At times nature can be cruel, but there is also a raw beauty, and even a certain justice manifested within that cruelty.

The alligator, one of the oldest and ultimate predators, normally considered the "apex predator" in it's natural eco-system, can still fall victim to implemented 'team work' strategy, made possible due to the tight-knit social structure and "survival of the fittest pack mentality", bred into the canines over the last several hundreds of years by natural selection.

See the remarkable photograph below courtesy of Nature Magazine. Note that the Alpha dog has a muzzle hold on the gator preventing it from breathing, while another dog has a hold on the tail to keep it from thrashing. The third dog attacks the soft underbelly of the gator.

Not for the squeamish or small children.

Actually thats not entirely accurate. All of the Alligators jaw power is in its closing ability, not opening. theoretically you could hold a gators mouth closed with a rubber-band. at least this is what i heard off some show on discovery channel lol
Whether you think you CAN or you think you CAN'T, you're right.

Coming from this GATOR fan I guess you didnt see last years Florida Georgia game in Jacksonville. :nonono:

All you need is scoreboad to keep a GATOR's mouth closed..... at least until next year.

thats true, not much leverage at the end of his mouth and of course if you flip him over, he passes out.
My 2 cents is worth 5 cents.

It actually wouldn't be too surprising...while the Gator has a strong bite, keeping the mouth closed on a Gator isn't too difficult and a human can do it.

Thank you Animal Planet!

The Gators suck, they'll soon join their formerly great counterparts FSU and Miami in mediocrity after Tebow leaves early for the NFL. Their basketball is done too.

Hmmmm .... let me guess ... hates the big three ..... from Florida ..... still lives with his mother and father in Orlando, probably has a primered Honda Civic with a big ass tail pipe to sound cool, a playboy mag under his mattress, 15 baseball hats with tags still on them, size 36 waist pants for a 29 inch waist, works part time at either McDonalds or Wal Mart, secretly enjoys watching womans tennis because their underware occasionally shows, you have a gym membership but never go, presently not seeing anyone (pillows dont count as girlfriends) ........

I got it!!!!

Angry UCF fan

Totally botched that.

1. I don't hate the "big three" FSU is my 2nd favorite school in college ball, and I really like them.

2. I don't live with my parents, and I don't live in Orlando.

3. Depending on the job, I make more than all the employees in McDonald's combined.

Conclusion? USF fan

Seriously though, UF does seem to be fading, look at their basketball and look at their disappointing football season despite having such a great college quarterback (who has no chance of panning out in the NFL, just like our QB).

I look forward to having you not win the SEC this year, having us win the Big East, and you guys still being "better." Even though our defense of last year was about 10x better than yours, and minus either of our QB's both of our offenses would've sucked.

I know you are, but you accused me as a UCF fan, and that deserved a long winded response, lmfao!

And yes, you're obviously right about everything else because I didn't acknowledge them as wrong, lol
