All-time 3 point record

Post#1 » by Cigamodnalro » Sat Mar 22, 2008 2:20 am

IIRC, the single-season record was set by the Suns. Five or six games back, we had to average about 11 to beat it. Since then we've had two fourteen three games. Where exactly do we stand? Is this something we can accomplish this season?

after some digging, I believe the record is 796. After tonight's game, I believe we have 686 with 11 games remaining, which is 10 3-pointers made per game to tie the record.

Tough to do. REALLY tough. It would be really cool if the Magic broke the record though.

By the way if anyone's wondering we average 9.66 3-pointers made per game now. So to average 10 over the last 11 games wouldn't be too outrageous I suppose.

Starters minutes may lessond over the final games of the regular season as well though so that may hinder it further

Woops. I had my stat wrong. The record was 796 in 2004-2005, but the next year the Suns broke their own record to get to 837. They averaged 10.2 per game (according to the O-Sen).

To break the record, the Magic have to average 13.73 per game the last 11 games of the season.

VERY unlikely.

Too bad 3-point shooting doesn't translate to the playoffs. Hater in the house ftl.

It would be neat to break but I'd rather get the wins.

An inside - outside game does play well in the playoffs. Especially if the offense can also drive the lane (this is missing and is why the Magic should go after a Maggette-type in the off season).

The Magic have 2 of 3 parts to be dominant in the playoffs. Against Toronto, Atlanta, or Washington, that will be enough. Against Detroit, an inside - outside game alone will only work if the shooters stay hot.

The other part we're missing for a deep playoff run is a PG with a long track record of taking care of the ball. But, it appears Nelson is improving in that area....

I thought before the season that the Magic would make alot more 3's than last year because the old coaching staff never utilized it properly, but there is no way i would have thought that the Magic would challange the all time 3 point record. Goes to further show how incompetent Brian Hill is. Adding Lewis helped alot but actually having a proper offensive system that took advantage of the 3 was the key. Stan is the man.

This roster would actually win some games here and there. The problem would be TOs and rebounding. But those are often problems now.
