Is Mo Evans a Staring Caliber SG?

His shot is getting better consistently..he's at 38% at 3's. He hustles for those offensive rebounds and usually finishes when he gets to the rim and solid defense. I keep on hearing Childress and Maggette. But is that the biggest need at the moment? One option is perhaps finally giving JJ a shot being the 2 guard back-up. Would a Evans/Redick rotation at 2-guard be considered good enough to make the finals? Or do we still need an upgrade and have Evans be the first off the bench? Either way this guy better be in a Magic uniform next season!

No.
He's a nice back up though.

I think its more cruical to find a PF rather than a SG. If we find a PF we can move both Lewis and Hedo to the 2 and 3 respectively.

I too agree the gap at PF and PG is alot more bigger than SG. But I'm on the edge at Hedo for 2 guard. I would like to see how he pans out.

I don't think the SG is needed to be a big scoring position for the way our team goes. He does fine for what we need him to do IMO.
On any other team he probably isn't, but he's a good fit for us.

I agree and resigning Evans makes sense, the Magic can use the MLE to go after a PF.
Though most of you seem to forget that the Magic next year will have a PF as in Battie.
What the Magic really need to get is a real pg with Nelson as the backup.
Those other players that so many of you want the Magic cannot afford. If Corey opts out he is going to want about 10 million and up and Childress is the same.
Otis Smith is squeezed into a tight corner because of the extensions for Howard and Nelson then there's all that money for Lewis and who knows what is going to happen with Hedo so there is not a lot of room for the Magic to find that sweetheart deal.
So trying to get some big payroll player start thinking smart and realize that the Magic are not going to get Brand Corey or any of the other big name players that everyone is floating out there.

evans been pretty good starting, he will be fine for now, i dont think he is what u call a legit starting guard, and an upgrade at one of the guards spots would be nice....i still think we need some help at the pf and pg spots

No.
Maurice's PER is 13.66. That is by definition below league average. Below average players are not starters.

Yes.
Wait, the Magic lost last night.
No, Evans sucks. Mo Evans, more like NO Evans.

I think Mo is a starter calliber SG because he is a hard work intangible guy. You can not just take 5 scorers and throw them together, you need a Bruce Bowen type dirty work guy. Mo is that for the Magic. What we need is a better starting PG playing next to Evans. If we can upgrade at SG, I am cool with that, but Evans can start. He can also backup. In a perfect world both he and Jameer would be backups and we would improve both backcourt positions. PG is the more pressing need IMO. We are a better PG and a 6th man type rugged big man away from being a title contender.

evans is a backup. i think to myself if we can make evans look like a starting shoot guarding at times and enable him to drop 17 points once in a while imagine if we had an actually starting sg who was know for being a good three point shooter.

In all seriousness, I think Evans is a starting caliber SG.
He's not great or anything, but he's a good role player who plays hard and doesn't make many noticable mistakes. He's a solid starter.

Mo is definately starting caliber for this team. Dwight, Hedo, and Shard are our 3 go to guys. We don't want all 5 starters demanding the ball. Mo plays great defense, hustles, and is very capable on offense. But he can play just as hard whether he gets 2 shots in a game or 10. Solid role player, great fit, great guy. I hope we resign him this summer.

my only problem with evans is he isn't a very good passer at all.

Lol
I like Evans actually... you won't dominate other SG's with him but he still gives you steady production (OK its not much) & more importantly he always seems to hustle no matter what...

Yes Evans is good enough to start for now. I think he's doing very well. At PG Jameer is playing much better lately. He's distributing the ball well and finding open teammates for easy buckets.

maybe we dont need a lights out shooter playing the 2, but then we need someone that can defend..having both our starting guards not even average more then 28mins tells you something...

Totally depends on the definition of starting calibre.
There is two very simple ways I look at it, for any player in any game.
Is he starting calibre on his respective team: For Mo, yes. SG is not our key position, we need a defender and a 3 point shooter there, could we have better? sure, but does he do the job we need, yes. He can have his big games, he can make his stops [and imo he'll only get better].
Is he a starting calibre player any where in the league?: No. On alot of teams Mo wont start, he could even be 3rd string on respective squads; or in the SF position off the bench.
Each team is different. Our focus right now on offense is clearly Dwight, Rashard and Hedo, they are the ones we will look 2 first, after that we need players that can attack the rim or hit the shot, but also, be effective on the other side of the floor [or you just hope that other things they do on offense offsets defensive liablity].
Very few lineups have 5 bonafide starters, in that they would make a case on every single team in the league to be a starter [Detroit, Denver I think arguably, maybe a couple others]. Alot of other teams have "role" players just because they dont need another scorer [typically this is the case] or have that 3 point threat.
