Shaq wants to be the Magic's GM

Post#1 » by Versubio » Wed Mar 26, 2008 8:04 pm

"Grant will be the team president -- he's a bright guy -- and I'll be the general manager," O'Neal said. "I'm serious. They need me down there with the new arena coming. Grant and I are coming to do the job."

I could have sworn I already posted a response to this quote like 2 years ago.

O'Neal said something like this awhile back - at first, I thought this was just an old article you were posting. He said he wanted to get him, Grant, Anderson, Scott in the front office. Something like that.

He may want to come. But do we want him to come?

"No" vote for me.

What he said two years ago was that he and Grant wanted to buy the Magic. I think few things would help grow the membership of the Otis Fan Club like the thought of Shaq as GM!

Actually, I like the idea of Shaq and Grant coming back here...

Yeah, Shaq left us to rot, but then from listening to what he has said all this time, it's obvious that he still likes Orlando... and it's obvious that Shaq left us to go to a better market in L.A. (and, consequently, a few horrible rap albums and movies).

For Grant Hill, I've never liked him because of his injuries and him leaving us for a Championship contender (which almost every veteran does now), but it couldn't be helped.

Shaq is a really popular guy, same as Grant, and I think they will attract a lot of players.

But I'd rather want Shaq to be a part owner or something like that.

And yes, the constant anger I've felt from listening to Otis say, "I like this team," might have led to this blasphemous thought.

Well, there's already 1 veto to that notion ...

His comments are silly.

Even since MJ became GM of Wash and CHA i am weary of players with no management experience being GM's. They are more than welcome to be owners though.

Funny:

Smith laughed Wednesday when he heard about O'Neal's plans for the future.

"I thought he wanted to be the Sheriff," Smith said. "But when they are ready, I will be happy to step aside.'

But as a counterpoint, look at the bang up job Isaiah is doing ...

Nobody will ever duplicate Zeke's run as NY's GM.

Never.

GM Smith seems quite safe in his current job.

They both might like Orlando but I hope neither return to this team.

Shaq walked and was going to no matter what happened in 1996.

Grant Hill was banged up his 7 years here and now is healthy there playing for the minimum.

If they are brought back, it's like management spitting on their own franchise.

I will be disgusted and I'll even puke if Shaq helps Hill win a title in Phoenix.

Shaq has always been full of it though and Otis has done a good job so I do not see a change in the future.
