It is no secret we have one of the worst draft history over the past 10 years, unless we get the 1st pick of course. It is also obvious this situation bothers us dearly. We have drafted the likes of Fran Vasquez, Reece Gaines, Steven Hunter, Jerald Sasser, J.J Redick and on and on. If you have to list them, how would you rank them from 1-10? 1 being the worst. By the way, you have to take into consideration who we passed on, amount of games/minutes, production, or what we ever got from them via trade or toegrwise.

I'll list the player we drafted and then the players who were drafted after...

1) Jerryl Sasser - Gerald Wallace, Tinsley, Parker, Dalembert, Arenas and Okur

2) Steven Hunter - Randolph, Gerald Wallace, Tinsley, Parker, Dalembert, Arenas & Okur

3) Curtis Borchardt/Ryan Humphrey - Tayshaun Prince, Nenad Krstic, John Salmons, Boozer and Roger Mason

4) Reece Gaines - David West, Pavlovic, Diaw, Outlaw, Perkins, Barbosa, Josh Howard and Jason Kapono

5) *Fran Vazquez - Granger, Warrick, David Lee, Garcia, Kleiza, Maxiell, Bass, Turiaf, Ellis, Blatche, Amir Johnson, Gomes & Louis Williams

6) Brian Williams - Terrell Brandon, Dale Davis, Chris Gatling and Rick Fox

7) JJ Redick - Ronnie Brewer, Boone, Shawne Williams, Marcus Williams and Jordan Farmar

7) David Vaughn - Greg Ostertag


that's about it for me i think...

1. Fran Vasquez- has never even stepped foot on an NBA court and was a lottery pick. Danny Granger was on the board at the time...just a complete cluster****.

2. Tie Gerald Sasser/Reece Gaines- both equally dissapointing, both were mid first rd picks and were out of the league within four years. If I remember correctly Tony Parker and Gilbert Arenas were on the board when each of these guys were taken...whoops!

4. Steven Hunter- I'll admit I really liked the guy coming out of college. I thought he was raw and would develop...but he didnt. He's still in the league and could play backup C on most NBA teams, however, Brendan Haywood probably was the keeper of the two.

5. JJ Redick- I hated the pick at the time and obviously hasn't even cracked the rotation, but since I had no expectations for him, he really hasn't "dissappointed". Ronnie Brewer was the pick here IMO. Hopefully this pick can be salvaged in a trade to pick up a quality player or move up in the draft.

6. Ryan Humphrey- Just thought of him. Another guy who I had no expectations for and for good reason. Wasted pick.

Thanks for the list Thief. Wasnt Borchardt traded on draft night to Utah? Who'd we end up with? Humphrey? Anyways, I'm sticking with my list, although looking at who we passed on the Hunter/Sasser draft may have been our worst ever. I'll just never get over the feeling of disgust and anger I felt when we drafted Vasquez...I almost lost it, and that was before we even knew what a flake he is!

I wouldnt call JJ a bust, I just dont think we should have drafted him over Brewer

No way is JJ a worse pick than Ryan Humphrey.

The Sasser pick was a head scracther from me since the beggining. Never understood how the Magic thought that he would be the adequate tall point guard that Doc was in love with. I saw Ryan Humphries play in college and i thought he would be atleast a decent NBA player.

At least the Sassinator scored 26 against the Celtics in Boston.

Well, not counting second rounders there are a few names that are still absent from that list. Other stinkers in our history have been: Stanley Roberts, David Vaughn, Brooks Thompson, Brian Evans, Courtney Alexander, and Johnny Taylor. We've had some success however with Jameer, Harpring, Doleac, Keon, Mike Miller, and of course Nick and 3D. Definitely some room for improvement.

That's some bad picks for sure.

But, I bet if you looked at every team over the last 15-18 years, most teams may have just as many.

In every draft, about 1/3 of the 1st round picks become good to very good players. Another 1/3 become role players of sorts. The last 1/3 are journeymen that fill the tail end of a roster, rarely produce, and are bounced in and out of the league after a few seasons.

Smarts and luck are required.

Stanley Roberts was a good pick really, he was solid at LSU and had a lot of promise so I can't really fault that pick, plus Matty was high on LSU guys and he really wanted him...

Brooks Thompson was just a weak player in a weak draft, they really did the best they could have with that pick...

Thats true actually. I thought twice about that one after I listed him. I also listed Vaughn without seeing that you did as well.

yeah Stanly Roberts was actually productive for one season. He wasn't a bad pick, but if I remember correctly the clippers signed him to a huge deal when we got Shaq and he never played well again.

plus he got mixed up with Drugs, and i believe he was drunk on one of the teams flights back from a west coast trip...to this day im not sure why it took so long for him to get booted from the league...shame...

Stanley was a good pick at the time.
I think Brooks did ok for us.
Jameer was not a draft pick.

the thing is unlike other teams, the magic don't get their share of steals or sleeper.

and I believe we traded Borchardt for Humphrey

I think that JJ will go down as the most beloved Magic draft bust.
