OT: Lebron's racist cover?
Posted: Fri Mar 28, 2008 12:29 pm
He's on the cover of Vogue, but they say it's racist cuz he looks like a gorilla wanting to "play" with the girl, I say he just looks like an idiot. From Yahoo...
the image is stirring up controversy, with some commentators decrying the photo as perpetuating racial stereotypes. James strikes what some see as a gorilla-like pose, baring his teeth, with one hand dribbling a ball and the other around Bundchen

Racist or not, that's one ugly cover.

Oh lets cry about something, it's all people ever do.

Is this another example of the man trying to keep the brother down? A decree sent from the smoke filled room where all white men gather to discuss new and improved ways to keep minorities, women and homosexuals existing on a level of economic and social inferiority? Give me a

Maybe the author is saying he's portraying King Kong (gorilla and blonde white girl in grasp) waiting for someone to knock him down from the heights he's risen (empire state building) to?
Maybe it's just art imitating art?
Maybe it's just a cheap knock off, just like a velvet painting of the last supper?

Two things you can be sure of:
They took dozens of pictures.
LeBron approved of that one.
So if he looks like a gorilla, (which I don't see) he likes the look.

Cant believe people are so bored to come up with such stupid remarks. We have to complain about something all the time. Ugly or not it is a picture and has received attention, so it did its job.

i think the picture is supposed to portray him as a king kong type, i believe that was the point of the photo. but not to refer or compare him to a "monkey" or to insinuate that he or other blacks are gorillas.
and LeBron didnt see a problem with it...
besides, i dont see a porch in that picture...oh zing!

Maybe it's his hard-core muscle bound look balanced by her softness. I don't know, I'm not that artsy-fartsy

looks like some people should watch a little more NBA. Players make that face after a dunk all the time. Maybe the photographer was trying a King Kong effect but then again maybe not.

It's an image some have likened to "King Kong" and Fay Wray.
James told The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer he was pleased with the cover, saying he was "just showing a little emotion."
"Everything my name is on is going to be criticized in a good way or bad way," James told the paper. "Who cares what anyone says?"
But magazine analyst Samir Husni believes the photo was deliberately provocative, adding that it "screams King Kong." Considering Vogue's influential history, he said, covers are not something that the magazine does in a rush.
"So when you have a cover that reminds people of King Kong and brings those stereotypes to the front, black man wanting white woman, it's not innocent," he said
Vogue spokesman Patrick O'Connell said the magazine "sought to celebrate two superstars at the top of their game" for the magazine's annual issue devoted to size and shape.
"We think Lebron James and Gisele Bundchen look beautiful together and we are honored to have them on the cover," he said.
