Interesting! This claims that Shaq drove SVG away from Miami, not Pat Riley. You gotta check out the nickname Shaq gave Stan. I don't know if this is credible, but it's posisble

That's not news. There were all kinds of rumors about that at the time. Still, Riley should have moved to stop it if he wanted to keep Stan as the coach. Shaq has been responsible for at least three coach firings over the years and a multitude of trades, but the media don't usually hold his feet to the fire for it like they do some other people. It's no excuse for Riley. I remember that Dwyane Wade didn't sound too happy about it when it happened.

Brian Schmitz has a blog on it, too. The best thing about his is it points out that Shaq started the uprising that led to Brian Hill's original firing. Penny gets all the blame, but Shaq set that up long before he left, and he's washed his hands of it. And now B.Hill still buddies up to Shaq. I have never understood that.

I wouldn't be too surprised if the article has some truth to it. It literally fits Shaq's ego history. He has to get his way for him to get the credit and boast in the spotlight. Remember L.A. when he got both NVE and Eddie Jones traded from the Lakers after talking to Lakers mgmt about having them remove?

That's why Brian Hill mantains good reltionships with Shaq, the big fella looks like a much friendlier and nicer person than Penny (I really loved Penny's game back in the '90s, mind). In fact, having a NBA player use the Ron Jeremy nickname is pure gold

Without SvG, where would the Magic be? If Miami had SvG where would they be? Nothing good comes from the above.

You know, though, I wouldn't be surprised if that is part of the reason that Shaq made those comments now. Throw a little doubt into Stan's mind, maybe, about who will be running the franchise long term.

Shaq seems to like to keep people in Orlando thinking that he always will control what happens to the franchise. And there are people here that buy into that, that the Magic need him to come back to save the team.

I don't buy into that, but as long as there are people who do, those people will try to create problems for the Magic. He has people here who still are loyal to him, and those people always try to run the franchise down -- as if because Shaq left the franchise is doomed forever. That only will be the case if the fans and the organization allow that to happen. Having said that, I'm not opposed to bringing Shaq back into the franchise at some point because I think he's a pretty smart guy and other players like him. But not because the Magic must have him to ever be a success. I don't think he should be allowed to bounce other guys who have helped build the team into into a winner.

Hill prob still dreams of being a Head Coach again. Sucking up to Shaq,who is immensely popular w/players and may say something about how over yrs he's recognized how much Hill helped him utilize his talents,is a very small price to pay.
