Nelson now believes that the blow to his jaw recently gave him another concussion. This is what he said to John Denton Florida Today there is more.

Orlando Magic point guard Jameer Nelson believes now after days of lingering dizziness and nausea that he indeed suffered a concussion last week when he was accidentally whacked in the face by a Dwight Howard forearm.

Too many concussions could bring an end to Nelson's career it has happened to several players in different sports. There are some people who are more prone to concussions then others and they mostly end up with long term effects from all of the concussions.
Nelson is just short enough that he keeps on getting hit by Howard's forearms.
Just another reason for the Magic to have a pg to backup Nelson.

Well I guess this proves that we need to trade Nelson for someone a little taller who won't get hit by one of Dwight's elbows.

makes sense...i figured that this was the case...he should not have stopped wearing the mouth piece after last time...he was told then to wear it...well hopefully he'll be back soon...

It's already been reported that Nelson now must wear a mouth guard for the rest of his career. That means the starting PG can not call out plays.

You can tell he hates wearing it though, he takes it out all game long. If only he could get used to it and keep wearing it, I don't want to see him have his career cut short over this.

well if it does end his career, that's like a reset button for the Magic, we'll have money to get another quality PG and everyone will stop complaining...

Why? Won't he still count against the cap? Unless there's some sort of buyout to lessen the impact.

If he was to retire (please no) his contract would come off the books 1 year after it was medically determined he couldn't play, and, we don't get an exception or anything if he was to retire, so we would be over the cap.

The only reason we could give Nelson the contract we did was because we had his Bird rights. We would need to get a player first, have his Bird rights, and then sign him, but that doesn't really equate to 'having money to get another quality PG'

Trade him to Philly! now before the word gets out

Wouldn't he have some sort of injury clause, thus keeping him on the cap for awhile longer?

Lets keep in mind that Jameer diagnosed himself here. I doubt that he suffered a concussion though. Yes that would cause him to be dizzy, but he'd have killer headaches as well, along with other symptoms. Getting hit in his jaw could have very easily knocked his upper cervical vertebrae out of alignment. That would have given him the exact same symptoms. There is a direct ligament attachment from his jaw to his C-2 vertebra. Thats probably what happened here. Also, I don't believe that a mouthpiece would have helped him a whole lot. It would protect his teeth obviously, but it wouldn't prevent him from suffering this other condition, whether its a concussion or not.

true...but, he's becoming a regular John Lynch...after awhile, you dont need a Dr. to tell you that you have one...

didn't steve francis, who i'm sure had his share of cranial afflictions, wear a mouth guard when he was here?

when he needed to call a play, he would simply take his mouth guard out, call the play, lick his lips then put the mouth guard back in.

i think jameer will be able to manage.

Nope, the remaining salary would come off the books 1 year after he was forced to retire, the player would still get paid though, I'd imagine insurance would cover most of the cost.

Theres no exception, injury exceptions are only for season ending injuries like Battie, and even those are only for 50% of the players salary.

Chopping Meer off the books due to retirement would just leave us over the cap and with one less player.

Arroyo is one tough SOB. In the Puerto Rican league, play is extremely physical so he's used to getting hit hard.

Would that make him nauseous, too, because Jameer apparently has been having that symptom, too.

Maybe the mouthpiece is to keep his upper and lower teeth from making direct contact? Whatever the mouthpiece is, I've read that it's not your ordinary mouthpiece. Don't know what can be done differently with them, but apparently, it's a special mouthpiece.

When he drives the lane, he gets thrown out from under the basket and around the bottom of the basketball standard a lot and he doesn't get a lot of calls down there. Talk about guys who get disrespected by the refs. I know he's not a star or anything, but I think Jameer gets fouled a lot that isn't called. He takes a lot of hits that the Magic's bigger guards don't even try to take.

Maybe that is why none of the Magic players want to rebound. Dwight already has cost Jameer and Tony games quite a few games -- and now Cook some time, too. Maybe everyone is afraid of Dwight taking them out, too. If I recall, earlier in his career, Mutombo's teammates used to joke with him about that because he took more than one of them out, too. Can't have Dwight worrying about that all the time, though. He just needs to play.

I remember SVG complaining after one game that no one on the team was willing to take a charge. Jameer had taken at least two in that game, but they were called blocks. Recently, he has gotten a few calls. I don't know whether he's getting more respect, refs are calling more charges, or whether he's just getting better at it. He seems to be very good at falling without getting hurt, but I still get scared about some of them.

When Hedo got his last triple double, he joked about begging Dwight to just let him have one more rebound after he had 9. He commented on how dangerous it was to try to take a rebound when Dwight is nearby. I remember in one of the Team USA games when LeBron took a rebound Dwight was after. LeBron got it but went flying through the air and wound up losing the ball. Imagine one of our forwards or guards being hit hard enough to make that monster go flying. I thought in the last game that Dwight was not at all aggressive in going after rebounds. I wondered if, after injuring two teammates in one week, he was a little afraid of hurting someone else.
