If Fran wants to be here bad enough (which he should since he hasn't been a good fit at Barca), he's going to have to fork the cash for his buyout (which is at $7 million).
I think Barca would lower it to around $3 million (they want him out pretty badly but he won't be let go much cheaper than this).
The Magic as a team can only put up $500k.
The ball is in Fran's court first, then we will follow if he wants to be here.

Yeah, seriously after all the bad blood and the fact that he is not doing well in the euroleague do we want him???
I heard that his game is more tailored for the NBA than Euro. That he is more of a banger type, but still...
Adam do you have any additional insight on him. IIRC you're a big euroleauger(LOL not to mention the avatar).

I have seen very little of Fran, but yes, his has said that his game is more personalized for the NBA (i.e. he's more of a banger and wants to focus more on rebounding and blocking).
His jumper can be very consistent when he comes over.
It's just tough for him to hit any groove when he has been buried at Barca.

If the Magic can bring him over, they should give it a shot. Otis has to make sure he will fit in here though as it is unclear how he will effect team chemistry.
However, they still will need to get a tough bigman who could light a fire under Dwight to play next to him/back him up.
This would give Orlando a frontcourt of Howard, Battie, Cook, Vazquez, Foyle and a veteran with prehaps Gorcat spending the year as the 15th man.
There are not enough frontcourt spots for all of them.
Pat Garrity and James Augustine would depart.
If Vazquez flops or disrupts the team, it will not be hard to move him with his cheap rookie deal. Even though Otis likes him, he should also explore the market for Vazquez. He has rejected offers for his rights in the past.
In the Draft, the Magic need to go best available and if Fran is coming over, pick a Point guard unless Otis absoultely fall in love with a young big.
It's also not out of the question the pick could be dealt too.
The Magic will not have their 2nd because of the Van Gundy deal. It probably would have been sold for cash anyway.

Why might the pick be dealt, Howard?
They are going to have five to seven roster spots open this summer. Don't they need someone else they can bring in who won't have a big-money contract?
Look, I've been clear on this. I'm not holding my breath on Fran. I don't believe we ever will see Fran play here because I don't know if he has enough of a desire to play in the NBA to ever buy out his contract. When he has completed a buyout with his current team and has signed a contract with the Magic and is actually practicing with the team, then I might show a little interest. Until then, Fran has done nothing so far that allows me to trust that he will decide to leave Europe for the NBA.

From what I have read, after a certain number of years, a team can move outside of the rookie cap. And that rule is exactly for this situation. Fran could not afford to come to the NBA n the rookie cap. He is making about US$3 million after taxes. That's probably around US$4 million a year.
Vazquez is not coming stateside to make half salary.

drsd, where have you read that? I haven't come across anything like that before.
From Coon's FAQ:
Vasquez was 2005, ie not prior to 2005, so he would be signed using the salary scale for the year in which he is signed.
From Coon's FAQ:
When a team signs a first round draft pick in a year other than the year in which he was drafted, the player is signed using the salary scale for the year in which he is signed, not the year in which he was drafted. An exception to this is for players drafted prior to 2005, under the previous CBA.

Lovehoops,
Yes, they will have quite a few free agents but they might deal the pick because they have too much youth.
I think they will keep it though.
Were probably going to see a shakeup at the guard, possibily an athletic player brought in along with some toughness.
So, there will be turnover here than the last couple of years but they probably will keep the pick.
