I dunno if this has been covered or not, but did the Heat give SVG a ring? I wouldn't be surprised if Pat riley scratched SVG's name out, put his name on it, and kept two...

I also find the pleasant irony that the Heat will be searching for a head coach soon.

I heard he got a ring but he doesn't wear it and it's still in it's case. He said he wasn't part of that..that was them who won the finals.

He's saving his ring for us!

When the Heat went on to win the title in 2006, Riley offered his long-time, right-hand man a championship ring. Technically, Van Gundy was still a consultant as he was in exile, and Riley insisted throughout the Heat's playoff run that his former right-hand man was an integral part of the staff, always deeply involved in strategy sessions via e-mail.

But Van Gundy refused to take the championship jewelry, which tells you all you need to know about whether he really resigned, as the company line went, or whether he was forced by Riley to leave. So last night marked the start of an intense rivalry.

Interesting. I thought he had a ring, too. But I guess not.

At least Stan has principles. Riley is such an ass.

SVG is a legend.

Yep. He declined it and like the article says - it does speak volumes.

There was a local article about this in the summer. From what i remember, Stan refused the ring but they still sent it to him. He said he has never seen it, nor has he ever open the case & does not intend to ever see it. They said that it was stored in a safe somewhere. He said something along the lines that if he gets a ring that he wants to earn it, and do it with the Magic.

I was gonna say exactly the same. It takes a lot of balls to reject a ring won by a team built by him. That says it all about his principles and about Pat Slimey's.

I want Stan to sign a lifetime contract with the Magic. :D
