Gortats Defense Last night (might match up well against Bosh

Post#1 » by euromagic » Thu Apr 17, 2008 1:13 pm

I doubt that this will happen, but watching Gortat play D last night got me wondering how he would match up against Bosh. Marcin seems pretty long and was pretty agile.

Currently we don't have an answer for Bosh on D. Shard and Hedo are too short, and Foyle is too slow. Dwight shouldnt guard him because when Bosh is on the Wing shooting Jumpers he'll take away from dwights inside presence....

He's definitely one of the quickest 7 footers I've seen. It's incredible how quick he is up and down the floor.

That said, I don't think his defensive IQ matches what his body is capable of. He might be worth using for a few minutes a night simply to commit six hard fouls on Bosh. Bosh doesn't like to play too physical, and there is no way Gortat comes out the winner in any genuine head to head matchup with him. But I'm not above suggesting the Magic rough Bosh up a little - I know for a fact Toronto won't hesitate to batter Dwight in the post.

It's only a shame that we can't transplant Adonal Foyles defensive savvy into Gortat's body - Adocin Fortat would be a machine.

His utter lack of experience is the biggest problem. I just dont see Stan using him unless its an extreme situation.

We already know he physically has it all. He just hasn't played at all this season, can't expect him to know what to do right now. I still contend that he should have been playing earlier in the season, then maybe he would be ready to contribute right now. Its a shame, becasue we will absolutely need his energy and size against Detroit if we make it passed the Raps.

I had watched this whole game because someone at work lied to me saying that JJ broke his leg because he knew I tivo'd it. lol

Anyways I was very impressed with the way he played. Now i'm not suggesting we start him or anything, but why not use him to get some fouls steals and dunks. I was suprised at how quick he was, especailly for a seven footer!

A little off topic, but for the Brighthouse users... Have you noticed that they did not play the remaing games on SUN in HD after FSN's games were over?

This pretty much led me to the thought process that they were yet again sticking it to SUN (and all the BH users) for no good reason. I hope that's not the case and was wondering if anyone had any info on why the last several games were not broadcasted in HD.

Bosh is monster in the triple threat. Guarding him is all about defensive BBall IQ. Gortat aint got much yet, if ever.

Not that I'm expecting something similar to happen, but remember when we where 3-0 aginst the Pistons in the Playoffs, and then some kid called Tashaun Prince, came up out of nowhere to shutdown T-Mac

Well, this is as of August, 2006. Not sure if anything's changed since then.

The league's board of governors also voted to expand the postseason rosters to 15, instead of 13, with 12 players active for each game. That duplicates the rule used in the regular season.

So if Cook and Battie are out, that leaves one more guy they have to deactivate on a game-per-game basis, presumably either Augustine or Gortat.

Warlock showed some nice skills in yesterday's game. Hopefully next year he'll crack the rotation and be a valuable back up for the Magic.

Marcin>>>>Foyle..I've called for that line up change all season. Three things he does that Foyle doesnt, Jump, Run, and Finish on pick and rolls. If Foyle catchs the ball on a pick, it takes him hours to gather himself to get up for the shot. 80% of the time he gets blocked. I'll throw up if Foyle has to guard Bosh. Marcin can bring energy to a position that doesnt have any behind dwight. I think he'll be valuable in stretches.

I still think that we'll see Auggie take that last spot for the 1st Round over Marcin (both played very well last night) based on what Stan has done of late.

It's a shame that Stan waited until the last game to see what Gortat can do. If he could bring that energy to every game then you have a guy to give you ten hard nosed minutes and 6 fouls. INstead Stan chose to play the season with 10 sf/sg at pf all year long. I'd give Gortat minutes, even if on;y to give a bunch of hard fouls.

Marcin has played 6 games this season.

Magic record........6-0.

Food for thought. I personally think Dwights days are numbered as starting center for the Orlando Magic. He might be able to keep his starting spot if he learns the power forward position, but if not, he'll be one of the top backup centers in the league.
