There's alot of Meer Haterz out there that as soon as he commits a turnover say " god i hope they start dooling/arroyo next game " ill be the 1st to admit he is no nash. But this guys 3 point shot has been on as of late and his D on ford was damn good... He even took it 2 the hole/coast to coast and didnt look over his shoulder thinking he's gonna get blocked like he did last year. I just wanna give him his propz.. he steped it up yesterday - 24 and 7 And cant wait to see him do it in game 2... Also wanna give propz to Stans game plan, We have NEVER had a better coach then this guy. Putting Rashard on bosh = Neturalized ... Caldron has killed us before, but when he comes in Stan goes to the ninja and runs full court pressure. Calderon looked flustered.... Great Game Plan... GREAT COACHING

Nelson had arguably one of his best performances ever as a Magic player yesterday.

Nothing flashy, just consistent.

Jameer has heart that few do in this league. I love Jameer for trying and playing as hard as he does. He knows no other way. When he is in a funk he is the hardest on himself.

But what we have to keep in mind is that, its not his will that I have questioned. I just think his 5'10 height limits him guarding the 6'3 Billups, Rondos and many others.

He was absolutely outsanding yesterday, and he has my full respect but unfortunately his heart and hussle dont add to his height.

He used his far superior strength to bull his way past Ford, and the shotblockers were no where near the basket because one was deathly afraid to leave Dwight and the other is guarding Rashard on the perimeter. Jameer knew this in the second half and went on the attack.

I've already given Nelson enough love this season. His stats were up in almost every category, while his turnovers were down.

I don't understand why some people are so negative towards him. He ain't perfect, but he's more than serviceable.

That is greatest single group of basketball players to step onto a court in history. No one will ever top them.

I have been a Jameer fan from the Francis days.

Last night he played incredible. His penetration was really giving Toronto problems, which is how we made so many 3's in the first quarter; his ability to drive and kick.

He's also been shooting it very well the last two months of the regular season, and it's clearly carried over into the playoffs. If Jameer keeps up this intensity in the playoffs, we'll be a hard team to beat.

I seem to spend half my time on the Topix board defending the Magic point guards, and Nelson in particular. It's nice to see much less negativity on this forum.

No-one is under any illusions about Nelson's overall ability - he is a good, serviceable point, not Chris Paul or Steve Nash. But on a team with three All-Star calibre frontcourt guys, a serviceable point guard who knows is role could be enough (that's not to say I wouldn't be thrilled if Otis Smith managed to pull off a deal to upgrade either of our backcourt positions).

A few telling stats from Nelson's season - his per 48 assist, turnover, ast:TO ratio and rebounding numbers were all career bests. His shooting % from 2 and 3 were both up on last season, and he clearly made a concerted effort to find other guys before creating for himself, with his fga per 48 mins way down on his previous seasons.

Not only that, but post the All-Star break, his ast:to ratio jumped to an excellent 3.82:1, whilst his shooting both from the field and three-point range was over 50% .

He has also made progress on defense. He's still not a really good defender, but I'd no longer put him in the 'liability' category - he does a much better job of staying between his man and the basket than in previous years, and his rebounding for a 5'10" guy is excellent.

In short, I'd still say he was a good, rather than very good or great point guard, but he's definitely better than he is given credit for. Nice to see him getting some credit here.

Meer may be short but it ain't his feet that's keeping him up.

I've always believed in Meer, his biggest problem is psychologically.
He plays as a shoot first pass second kind of a PG but people think that's how he is. That's just how he decides to play at times. When Meer plays to distribute he's a great PG. Against Toronto 1st quarter he dished a lot, really played as a true PG, lots of open shots. He also got a lot of open shots from that, he still got a lot of points. Then he started to play like the shoot first pass second PG and we fumbled a bit but thankfully that didn't last long. Also his penetrations are very strong, he's good at attacking the basket and laying it in. Defensively he also did a great job last night, stayed in front of his man a lot.

He deserves all the love.

I'm glad some of yall are finally showing him love. I don't know why he has been hated all this time. He's not perfect but he is a good starting PG. I've been a Jameer fan since ever.

In March, Jameer's FG% was 51.1, 47.2 for 3 pointers, and he averaged 5.8 assists. In April, the FG% went up to 60.5% and he was 62.5% from 3 pt range, assists dropped to 4.5/game.

At the end of February, (O. Sen.) SVG said,

"Jameer is our guy. There are two things, basically, that he needs. One is consistency in his shooting, and there's no reason why that won't come as he gains more confidence. The second is better decision making, and usually that comes with experience. That will continue to improve. We're going to stick with him."

I don't think it's a coincidence that Jameer's performance started improving right after that. Jameer has struggled with confidence since the beginning of the 06-07 season. Hill micromanaged his every move, and while he said Jameer was his best pg, rumors said he was pushing for a replacement. SVG had previously played head games with Jameer all season. He commits to Jameer, his performance soars, and the better he performs, the greater the confidence.

I love the kid, and remember thinking he'd be an all star in this league. Not so much anymore, but it is still not a huge stretch. He can play, and his will is iron. He is a winner, plain a simple. I would still like to see him increase in assist ratio and cut down the turnovers, but I think Stan is right, that will come with experience.
