He is. He's too moody, snaps at media over everything. His success is based on his players, not his skills as a coach.

Agreed 100%. Its the same as Doc Rivers. They have great players which makes them a great team. And thus making the coach look like a genius, while taking the team for a ride. IMO the players tuned him out earlier on in the season. I had a feeling he might have been let go, but damn this was fast.

He lucked into the position and was proclaimed a good coach because his players already knew how to play winning basketball. He really isn't a good coach at all.

I will give AJ this compliment and I only say it because it's true, he has a profound ability for getting through to his guys and his team always seems prepared for games, especially when they face teams they might have lost to previously.
I don't think the loss of this particular series was his fault...sure coaches take blame and they are usually ahead of the line...
as far as his strategies, style of play and his x's and o's...meh

A year too late.

no coach is gonna take the mavs anywhere as presently constructed.

I think this is dumb. Head coaches get fired way too often, too early, in today's pro sports.
Take a look at the list of recent COY winners going back to, say, Doc Rivers. Almost every one of them were fired within 1-3 seasons afterwards. The Suns coach is likely to be out as well, even after 4 straight 50-win seasons and a couple of playoff series victories. Incredible.
When's SVG going to be gone?
The faster the success is, it seems, the quicker you're out once the team hits a dryspell.

avery is a good guy, but the mavs are an overated soft team..i mean how can a guy poke you in the face like 5 times, and dirk just stands there like he is lost..its better for avery

I wonder if he'll find a new job before next season.
But like Greer said, no one is going to get far with that team the way it's currently constructed. To me, it wasn't really made to fit around Dirk's game. They need to build around Dirk, not just throw good players around him and hope for the best.

This is a risky move. The problem with the Mavs is the same problem with the 88 to-the 94 Suns; a great regular season team need not be a great playoff team.
For me, the GM should be fired over the coach. (The roster is the fault). But the fan base needed a head. They got one.

Cuban "Hello, is Billy Donovan there?"
Billy "hahahaha I'll take it!"
Cuban "YES!"
Otis "lol'z"

Shame...
Avery is one of the most entertaining in-game interviewees in the NBA.
He'll find another home soon.
