Hey guys, i am about to buy a computer in the next week or so. And it seems all of them come with Windows Vista now. I dont know much about computers but i have heard several people say that Vista is terrible and that they wished they could stay with Windows XP. So i ask, what is wrong with Vista? Why do people hate it soooo much?

Dont know what he said but if you possibly have the option, go with XP. Vista really is just that bad.

I bought a laptop with Vista in January and looks fine for a normal user for me, but im my case it has some problems... for exemple, i tried to install a database here and no one worked... 2 MySQL versions, 1 Postgree, Oracle 10g and 11g, SQL Server 2000, 2005 (Developer and Express), 2008...

But well, your new computer needs to be good, less then 2GB will make it really slow, IMO.

im curious to see why people say its so bad...yes it took me a bit to get use to it...but now that im familiar with the program, i think its really cool...but i dont have any problems with it now..for normal day use i think its ok.....i know the program is large and can slow down your computer,but mine is like 2gb and its fine...also i havent tried downloading or adding some special programs so i cant comment on that..

its not that bad..

Vista has much more overhead than XP (more background services running) which tends to use up more physical memory. Newer hardwares and softwares are also not fully compatible with Vista yet.

I'd stick with XP Pro for now until MS finished releasing Service Packs and Hotfixes for Vista.

My sister recently bought a new laptop (just to surf the net LOL) with Vista and I must say it's not so bad, it's more of a scapegoat these days. You can still use it for everyday computing.

I've had Vista on my desktop and laptop and have yet to run into any problems. I think people just like to complain about it like it's a cool trend.

There are noticeably more incompatibilities between Vista and hardware than with XP. There's so much extra junk running in the background that looks kinda neat but leads to longer load times, laggier performance, longer booting, etc. And MS's obsession with pop-ups has been taken to a startlingly new level with Vista. So yea, there are legitimate complaints against it.

Actually a lot of people and companies are having problems with Vista. Most of the companies are waiting for the new operating system to come out which is in two years.
One of the problems is that there are not many programs out there yet that you can add to the system, but you have to have at least 2gb's of memory or you will go no where.
Several people that I know just plan on upgrading their XP's for now or they plan on buying an Apple.
If you really want a new computer that works great from day one then try Apple.
Or just wait for the new operating system from Microsoft.

I have Vista and it is working really good. My other computer has XP. If I was running Vista with the same amount of Ram as I was XP then it would be noticeably slower. I am running Vista with 2 gigs of ram and it's just a little slower than XP with 500 mb of ram. The main reason to go with Vista over XP is because XP will lose it's support after a while and because most people will move to Vista anything new coming out will be geared away from XP and towards Vista.
I really wish I had the money to buy a Mac. It's just the difference in price is substantial.

Oh yeh, as far as downloading compatible software. I have, I download lots of stuff. Firefox, PDF creator, Corel paint shop pro, disk redactor, and lot's pf other stuff. They all work fine.

Microsoft is under pressure just to keep updating XP just like it had pressure before it brought out XP from people using Windows 98. So far I gather Microsoft is now saying that they plan on extending the coverage on XP because over 60% of all companies are still using XP and don't want to switch to Vista they are waiting for the new operating system before they upgrade.

i have vista, and like it a lot because I have had no reason not to.

no to vista. i wan't xp back.

xp has sp3 available if not now than within a few weeks, and will be viable for at least a few more years....get a barebone kit and just update for around 150 bucks or so..don't buy a new pc yet.

That's why you get a Mac.

You could get Vista.... or.... you could get what Vista is trying to be. AKA MacOS.

I cant not buy a computer and wait a couple of years. My laptop is old and will explode soon, so thats not an option. I will need a new one, and im not a Mac fan at the moment since i need something that is inexpensive.

you need tons of ram. Min 2GB to make it run without annoying you.
