if we lose this series

then let's just go ahead and fire SVG...i mean hell it seems like if a team loses in the first round they get rid of their coach...mitchell might as well pack his bags, d'antoni is talking with NY and CHI, avery got the leg, denver was talking about not bringing karl back and now mike woodson might be out in atl after what they did in the playoffs, honestly i dont think anyone expected the hawks to even make the playoffs let alone push the celtics to 7 games. the only one not being talked about is adelman and that's because his team sucks and they're without their starting all star center...it's ridiculous how coaches get no respect for what they do
for all you SVG homers (i am one myself) i was just kidding when i said fire him

Avery Johnson should have been fired. He has way underachived. Dantoni should not be fired, nor should Mitchell.

Well, teams that reach their maximum productivity and can no longer progress are the ones that change their coaches. We are hitting new highs. 52 wins is great and I dont expect a much more gain next year but I surly do expect us to do better against Pistons the next year.

Hell no! Regardless of what happens in the second round this season is already a huge success for the Orlando Magic. A step in the right direction.

Buuuut if we dont get to the ECF in 3 years i bet all you guys will be calling for SVG's head. I dont think coaches should be fired most times its the new type of win every year or you suck mentality. Im realistic i know we cant win every year but are most fans & owners?

LOL. So wait, you want to fire SVG after this year because we don't win this series? You mean a coach that got won us 50 games for only the third time in franchise history, won our first playoff series in 12 years and shows signs for a promising future for our franchise? Get out..

You can bring in Phil Jackson, with the backcourt we have he can't do ****. We'll never win a ring with that backcourt.
Stan has to stay, no matter what.

Exactly. Needed to be said.
Edit: Well, not everybody, of course. But there will be a large faction that will. SVG is a very good coach. If he has talented players, he can win.

If we lose this series, it's not the end of the world. we improved from last yr and will only get better. we won 12 more games than last yr, won our div, got to the 2nd rd in playoffs.

I think Stan is a great coach, and I'm looking forward to having him here for a long time regardless of what happens in this series. Coaching gigs are so fickle.

The one thing I hate about this thread is it sounds like people have already given up on the Magic against the Pistons.
One game does not make a series you are all starting to sound like the Celtic fans after they lost two games to the Hawks.
GO MAGIC!!

We've lost 2 games in the playoffs so far - I'd fire him just for that.

Should have fired him after the Toronto loss -- we'd have been up 1-0 on the Pistons.

I get what your saying and i'll agree with you 100 percent.
I'll also add that because of what you mentioned, the best coaches still stay in the NCAA. Why would the coach K's of the world want to come to an NBA team? Then they get fired because the GM doesn't deliever talent, or because the team has bad luck in the lottery, or the GM stockpiles bad contracts ala Isiah.
Yet look at GM's, they hardly ever get fired. Isn't that interesting?

Exactly. It wasn't the aforementioned coaches' faults for not advancing, it's because their
team wasn't good enough to advance. They weren't outcoached, per se, it's just their rosters need retooling.
Now in the Bulls situation this year, yes, they stopped listening to Skiles. He had to go. But in the end, he's a good coach, and sure enough he got another job for next season.
If we don't advance, no one should lose their job. Not Stan, not Otis. I agree with Magicalltheway that next year we should be better than the Pistons anyway. We weren't supposed to go all the way this year. Not saying we still can't, but either way you look at it, this year is a success regardless.

I love SVG as the coach here, and this series is certainly not over.
However, IMO, SVG wouldn't get a very good grade for game one.
I'm sure that he will have much in hand to night though.
BTW- SVG- DO NOT EVER SIT HOWARD FOR SIX CONSECUTIVE MINUTES AGAIN IN THE SECOND QUARTER.
Sorry for the tone, but I had to get it off my chest.

Hmm, if we lose this series I think we are what we though we were. You know what I mean? A team without a backup banger to play the 4, and with two bench guys filling out a starting rotation at the 2.
Getting Battie back fixes one of those problems, and using the MLE to get a 2 will fix the other. IF Detroit pulls off this series, I fully expect just these two changes to put the Magic over the top and end Detroit rein at 6. We will still win this series and make the finals though, so no worries.

Yes, about that....What was he thinking exactly???
