PG problems ?

Nelson is great 4 the team but on defense he is a liability. Teams keep taking advantage of that. They plan pre game how to attack him. If you were GM of the Magic What steps would you take to fix the problem yet still retain Nelson ???

Keep Dooling, but there is really no problem longterm there, he has done great this post season.

Defense is all about team defense. Jameer has also been blowing by Chauncy all series long.

jameer really hasnt done too bad of a job... i dont really know the numbers from game two, but game one chauncy went 5-14 i know he had 19 but it was off of free throws and half of the fouls werent on him. If nelson can play a whole season like he has this post season than keep him as our starter, and maybe draft a defensive point guard but id rather focus on a pf or sg

I hate when people use the fact that Jameer is blowing by Billups as well as a defense for him. It doesn't matter how many times you score...if you don't stop your guy, it means nothing in the end.

Jameer has stepped it up big time in the playoffs but I don't think anyone expects him to play at this level all next season. He will go back to how he played during this regular season and everyone will want him gone again.

I want to keep him around but we are never going to win an NBA title with him starting for us. He is a kickass backup and should only be a starter on average teams.

Agreed but I think Lewis should start at 2 and Turk at 3 and get defender/rebounder to start at PF but we really need a defender on the outside who can pass I want a PG but SG would be fine if he can do both

So, based on this this reasoning, should Detroit get rid of Chauncey and Phoenix unload Nash? Tony Parker isn't a stopper, should they trade him for expirings?

I didnt say any of that..

And I don't know What Det Phx and SA should do.. Just the Magic should do those teams have different players different styles there noway i could say that

Is there a single defensive (star caliber) point guard left in the L? Cuz everywhere I look I see guys who like to score and dish, but few know how to play defense let alone lock down their man.

I've never been a fan of Nelson, but there aren't many alternatives if we just look at defense.

But if you follow the line of reasoning of

then those other PGs should be replaced as well.

Magic have some the worst Defensive backcourts in the L. If we had Some1 who could dish the ball well how much better do you think Howard would be or the team .. we won 50 plus am super excited but we dont want winning seasons we want champinships

This series, Chauncey is averaging 1 more assist per game than Jameer. We shot the ball like crap the first and most of the 2nd game. Factor in that we at times run the offense through Hedo, and that more than makes up the difference.

I think Jameer is certainly holding his own this, and the previous, series. As he progresses, he'll be able to know when to switch from setup man to a scorer. Now it's SVG getting in his ear telling when to switch.

Quit Comparing .... Chauncey is way bigger and has more talent ... Nelson does not create assists it just happens great leader and soild player thu evening a SG that can Play D and Pass very well would be nice but I think Turk and Lewis could both play 2 . I just think PG would be ideal and needs to be address

Why? Because it busts your "arguments"?

leo6287 wrote:Chauncey is way bigger and has more talent ...

And yet Jameer is having a very good series ...

leo6287 wrote:Nelson does not create assists it just happens

Does the ball "just happens" to leave his hands to find an open teammate?
5 times a game?

Does it "just happen" when he drives and dishes?

leo6287 wrote:great leader and soild player

That sums up Jameer. He's stepped up repeatedly in the playoffs - hitting quite a few big shots - shots that changed our momentum for the better.

leo6287 wrote:thu evening a SG that can Play D and Pass very well would be nice

What?

leo6287 wrote:but I think Turk and Lewis could both play 2 .

Both would get torched - repeatedly - on the defensive end. On offense shorter defenders would be able to strip the ball easier and would be quicker.

Who? And more importantly how?

Jameer's assist stats DO NOT show how he creates. The guy drives and kicks out better than anyone on our team (yes, even Turk. He drives, but RARELY dishes, but rather goes up to finish). So Jameer penetrates, the defense collapses, he kicks it out to, let's say, Turk, who then swings it to an open Mo or Bogans. That is how our offense is set up. That is why Jameer had a valid point when he talked about the 'hockey assist'.

Defensively, he struggles, yes. The point Mhec was making was that most star point guards aren't exactly defensive phenoms. In fact, there are very very few defensive PG's. Jameer has done a decent job slowing down the opposition. He'll never be anything close to lock down, but he is no worse than Steve Nash, Tony Parker, or any number of PG's in the league, and their teams do pretty well...
