I never really understood why he is such a popular player on the team, and based on what I've read the past few weeks, it has reached a point where people are overlooking the interest of the team. To take it even further, other guards on the team have become scapegoats when Nelson is out.

his nickname is meer meer and hes got a smile as big as orlando!
Dwight Howard on his FT struggles:

"I just think everybody needs to stop talking about it," Howard said. "There's more to life than free throws."

substitute arroyo with nelson and I would agree with you. every time arroyo enters the game, its like jordan is coming out of retirement to help us. I dont think nelson is that popular at all. he doesnt get the cheers at the games and gets blamed for a lot of losses where the whole team played bad.

You want a serious response?

His determination. His...moxy. That swagger he's got. No matter how down he gets, he finds a way to get back up and get that swagger back. He's also fearless. He's more than willing to take the end of game shot, and he's more than willing to take the burden of responsibility squarely on his shoulders.

I think most fans are also familiar with his past, or at least in a general sense. I think most know that he struggled with being the little guy all his life, and had a lot of struggles and perservered. And let's not forget how popular he got his senior season of college, when he won College Player of the Year, and took his school deep in the tournament despite their lack of star power outside of him and West (who wasn't really a huge star in college).

He's a tough little guy, playing in a game of giants. People like the tough little guy.

UCF is right on here. Jameer has got a lot of spunk, he's got the only real leadership qualities on this team. He is a lot better than he played this year...look at him in the playoffs for crying out loud, he looks like Jameer in 2006 when he was busting 20 a night for a few months. He's shown up big time in the playoffs, and he's been better than the almighty Hedo. We need bigger guards, but we can keep Jameer Nelson for years in my view.. He's a good asset.
You look confused...let me fill you in.

He has arguably been our best playoff performer and completely owned the Raptors point guards who were supposed to have a major advantage, and you make a thread to bash the guy.

First of all meer has played great in the post season you cant disagree with that. And second he has such great team chemistry with magic, hes like dwights best friend, In the past when players lose guys like that they get a little disappointed. (ex Steve Francis when mobley got traded, and Kevin Garnett when Maurbary was traded) It wouldnt be good for the team. If you absolutey have to, get a point guard and if meer cant play like this for the whole season make him come off the bench or something, but dont get rid of him. But like i said if he can find consistency and play a whole season like this post season, i like him as a starter.

Sorry Glyde :)

Just dont like when people complain, especially when he is playing good and we are winning. He's short, so what. If LeBron exploded on us nobody goes crazy about Hedo or Shard on D.. he's a weakness defensively but still, a hard worker and good scorer

Wait, what?

Jameer gets hated on more than most of the other players.

Only lately has he really been getting any credit at all. Usually it's all "Jameer sucks", "We need someone who isn't a midget", etc.

Uhmm, no...just no.

Meer is performing amazing during the playoffs, defensively he still is awful, but the difference is his offensive game. Calderon, Ford got some pretty huge games, stats...but so did Meer. Billups torched Meer, but Meer also torched Billups at times. The good thing about Nelson is that he finally seems to understand when to take a shot and when to distribute the ball...he's playing like a point guard offensively and he's making nice plays. He's able to go at Billups which he never could do last year.

My reply was because there is simply no reasoning with Pancho, he doesn't seem to respond to logic, or in this cause, actuality.

Seeing Meer not bashed repeatedly, may make him appear popular to someone who bashes him endlessly.

Nelson has played arguably the best basketball of his career during these two series.

Gotta give him credit. He's earned it .
Basketball is driven by three principles:

1) Movement 2) Application of fundamentals 3) Predictability

He is the littlest guy on the court, but he never gives up - how does the shortest guy get up to grab the second highest amount of rebounds.

Need to stop the hate. Is he the best - nope, but he is all ours!
