Draft Day Trade Idea...

Ok,
Well I'm bored and figured I'd throw out a trade idea.
So Otis has already put the writing on the wall of a possible JJ departure. How about this:
JJ, Our 1st pick(22), and Future 1st
for
Mid Lottery pick (8-12) .... i.e. Kevin Love and 2nd Rd Pick
Of course this would only work if those teams needed a shooter. Just looking at possible teams in those spots seem like it could work (Portland, Sacramento, and New Jersey).

I don't think we can trade our 1st Round pick this Draft.

id rather do it for a top flight SG
Too bad we dont have the pieces to move up high enough to get Mayo

We can trade our pick. The only way we can't trade it is if we had traded next years pick. So the future pick will have to be the '10 draft

He certainly has talent but he'll probably be a bust at first. I think it will take him several seasons to get his act together and then he might become a solid contributor on a team but I have a feeling he is just going to be one problem after another. I have thought this for a couple of years now. He seems to have bought into his own hype way too much. Then again he just might live up to that hype. I hope he does well.

I think mayo would be a great piece for us.
Hes good at running the floor, can create his own shot, is pretty good at the outside shot, and can play play PG if need be and is a good defender
I dont think he is going to be a LJ type superstar or anything like that, but he would be an instant upgrade over any SG we have right now
BTW, why cant we trade our #1 pick this year?

no. we can't trade our pick this year because our pick last year went to detroit (stuckey) (milicic trade)
the only way this would work is if we drafted for that team and traded the players rights. i think if hibbert falls to us we take him without dealing, then if we want a lottery pick, trade jj and next years pick for the number 12 or 13 pick

i thought we could not trade a "future pick" but once it becomes draft night, it is no longer a future pick, because at the time "09" is considered the future pick
anyway, we need eric gordon or brandon rush

You know I don't think you be able to move up very far offering just JJ Redick. A player taken 8-12 should be a rotation player by the end of there rookie year and a starter by his second year. You really are lucky to get a rotation player by pick 22. Are you going to give up what you can get at 8-12 for JJ Redick. Redick is not close to a starter or in the rotation on a team that sports one of the weakest SG positions in the league. There may be a few teams that sell there first round picks to save on luxury tax

We can trade our pick this year.
The rule applies to future picks, you cannot trade consecutive future picks.
2007 was traded, but it is not a future pick.
If we traded the 2008 pick now, we wouldn't be able to also trade the 2009 pick.
After the draft however, the 2008 pick is no longer a future pick, and then we could trade the 2009 pick.

We can trade our pick. Once a draft passes, it isn't a part of the "consecutive picks" equation

We need to sticky a thread clarifying this rule. I swear it comes up like once a week.

I would use JJ, our first and a future first to move up for Love, Batum or Gallinari. All of those guys would be great fits.

Mayo (or at least the type of player he could be) would be the best possible SG next to Jameer. Hands down.
Out here in LA, they talk about Mayo and Love on the radio all the time. My assessment: Mayo will be a great pro IF he ends up on a team where isn't treated like the end all be all. Love will be a good role player, but if anyone expects him to be a franchise player, they will be sorry.

Our pick, JJ, a future pick won't even get us up to #15 IMO.

Mayo will be a good player. He's not Jordan, Kobe, or Lebron. I can see him developing into a D-Wade-Caron Butler mix.

Really its just some stuff tossed together that doesn't appear to have much value. I think something like that might get you a decent rotation player but thats about it.

Has anyone thought of the posssibiliy of trading Hedo staight up for a lottery pick?
In last years draft, Ray Allen was traded for the 5th pick and Jason Richardson was traded for the 7th pick.
Hedo is younger (I think), cheaper and better than both of those players.
It would be interesting to see if we could trade Hedo to a team like the Bucks and get the sixth overall pick.
Then we could select a guy like Brook Lopez with the sixth pick to pair with Dwight and use our late first on a denfensive-minded SG who can make 3's (Chris Douglas-Roberts or Brandon Rush)
Lineup
Dwight
Lopez
Rashard
Douglas-Roberts
Nelson
Or we could draft a guy like Eric Gordon or Mayo w/ the sixth (if he slips due to recent allegations) and pick a big with our late first.
Dwight
Arthur or Robin Lopez
Rashard
Mayo or Gordon
Nelson
I hate losing Hedo but these things are fun to think about.
