I think its Stern just getting old. Old people generally dont like things to be loud or bright.

Well I think the dress code exposed David Stern in a way. Stern cared about the way people dressed while there was a corrupt official right under his belt.

A) It's a business, and business is about marketing to what you consider your core demographics.

B) Do you think that Stern knew he was corrupt and did nothing about it?

This is absolutely ridiculous... The NBA officiating is going down the tube, and there are obvious rules that need to be looked at and changed.... and david stern is worried about the loud noise and pyrotechnics? what the.... What does he want to do play some mozart for the intro's.... David Stern should go to baseball or nascar cause he clearly does not belong in the NBA

I don't think the Nascar crowd for the most part appreciates Wolfie either.

They already said they are going to address some rule changes in the off-season. He's never is going to say the refs suck and are affecting the game results publicly.

He may say something to the effect:

"We are always looking to improve the game. Included in that is looking for ways ensure our refs are doing a good of a job as possible. But honestly, I think they are doing a phenomenal job already though."

That's true. I've been in organizations that kept telling the outside world that everything was fine while within they were carrying out an investigation of "witch hunt" proportions. They said certain people had done absolutely nothing wrong, but those guys were all soon looking for new jobs (for family reasons, of course).

Overall, I don't agree with Stern on the displays, which are fun. However there have been times when there has been enough smoke in the arena, that I was a little concerned that something had gone wrong. Perhaps things are worse at other arenas. I don't know how loud the music he complained about is. That in Amway is fine, but if it got to concert-level loudness, I would be screaming for relief.

It still is stupid...I'm white and i go to games with my parents in their 50's and they like it and they get fired up. It's stupid and he did say the refs sucked last year.... when donaghy got caught he supposedly ratted out a whole bunch of other refs... what happend to them? Did they even get suspended? Probably dont think so. We never heard anything about it which doesnt make sense the guy got caught in the act and gave names and then the whole issue got stuffed underneath the bed.

You can handle your business without hanging out your dirty laundry for all to see. It's all about trying to control public perception.

What do you think it would do to the popularity of the game if they came out and said "As a result of our investigation we've fined 10 refs and suspended 5 others."?

People would be wondering which ones they were, and if they were officiating your game, they would be blamed even more so.

Remember it's a business first and foremost. Not only is it a business, but it's a multi-billion dollar one which depends to a large degree on popularity.

So you think that they were punished and all that happened without the media getting a hold of any of the information.... You are living in the shadows of the Stern man... And if that is so they must not have been punished to severely because i didnt notice the absence of many of the nba refs this year. There were allegedly a lot of them too. Stern didn't handle that problem correctly because this whole season the reffing and flopping and the picking favorites was supposed to get better but obviously has not.

Stern can be concerned with more than one thing at a time; in fact, as commissioner, I'd expect him to be.

Personally, I don't see a problem with the pyrotechnics, but on another note, I could do without a lot of the gimmicky things like thundersticks and noisemakers that they hand out to you. I can clap and cheer on my own; I don't need a prop to do it for me. Old-school.

On another note, he's wrong about the "loud rap" statement - only because that's not rap they're playing, but rather the latest crappy dance club "gangsta" hit flavor of the month.

I'm sorry guys...I just can't picture the start of a Magic game with bottle rockets and Garth Brooks...but that's just me. Don't get me wrong, I'm as white and country as it gets but I love basketball and still think that 50 Cent and AC/DC are much better at pumping up crouds than Garth Brooks and John Mayer.

As for the pyro, it is fun to watch and makes for a nice show but I can' understand the need for certain regulations for safety reasons; ie, too much smoke causes alergy issues not to mention it is just plain irritating when you can't see the game because your eyes are watering so much.

Also, it wasn't a racist comment by Stern. He's just saying he's an old fart.

I wish we would do like the Spurs' audio-visual club. They play Guns n' Roses, Metallica ('80s), etc.

On a side note, when I was a little kid going to Magic games, I used to secretly dread the intro show because of the really loud explosion before the Magic players were introduced.

A warning is posted before each game this playoffs stating what will be used in the pregame and that if you're affected by them then head for the concourse.

Man, I hope he doesn't take it away.

I love going to Amway arena and being set off by the fireworks and the flames!

Can't imagine it gone.

Im glad Stern has his priorities straight. I mean the opening pyro is a far bigger problem than the Ref who is going to jail for illegally betting on games, and nothing has been done to fix that issue. The refs have been bad all season, especially this series. Maybe if Stern watched Orlando play, he would see that we should be up 3-1 on detroit.

Between Chauncey's bull 3 and Hedo getting fouled on a game winning layup, we got the shaft. Don't gimme the we shouldnt have been in that situation in the first place crap, cause it doesnt matter. The proper calls werent made.

Something also needs to be done with flopping. make flopping a techincal f'ing foul. Im sick of that ****. Not that the pistons series has sparked that, just in general. Every time I see Manu, Raja Bell, or any Raptor flop, I just want to kick the officials in the nuts for falling for it. There are certain guys in the league with reputations who should never receive a charge call again.

PS - I'd love to light a bag of dog **** on Sterns front porch...

When did Jemale Hill start posting on this board?

Funny you say that because when I did the Orlando Sentinel Summer Sports Institute in 2006, she was there to help pick the people to participate in the program.

Rasheed will agree with me too, so that's enough people. Can you at least agree that it was a bad generalization to say loud rap music?

I think rap music sucks does that make me racist? I think country sucks too, does that make me a closest case self loather, too? And god forbid professional athletes that make millions of dollars a year, show up to their job looking half way presentable. They are going to work after all, not the mall. Give me a break.
