Patrick Ewing to NY? NOT ANYMORE!!!!!

Maybe this will be the year that Patrick Ewing finally returns to New York.

Mike D'Antoni said Thursday that he would consider hiring the Knicks' Hall of Fame center as one of his assistant coaches.

"I know what he did in New York and I know that he's done a good job since he left," D'Antoni said. "He will definitely be considered."

D'Antoni is in the early stages of putting together his staff, which is expected to include his brother, Dan. The status of two of D'Antoni's other assistants from Phoenix, Alvin Gentry and Phil Weber, is uncertain. Both are still under contract with the Suns, which could prevent one or both from joining the Knicks.

So his brothers' name is Dan D'Antoni? Dan Dan? :lol:

Why would Patrick go to NY to be an assistant? He's already an assistant on a winning team here in Orlando and is working with the best young big man in the NBA.

Maybe because of his HUGE background in NY? :dontknow:

I do realise what you meant though, and I agree. Orlando certainly is a much better situation at this point, which definitely will be a key factor in his decision, whichever it may be I guess.

I don't mind it.

Honestly I didn't see Dwight develop any more than what it was expected due to his natural growth (age, experience). His jumpshot on which he was supposed to get all the help from Pat never showed up, his post moves were 2 or 3 at most. He's still the turnover machine, his FT shooting didn't improve.
I remember Houston fans (when we signed him) telling us that the credit for Yao's growth as a player had little to nothing to do with Pat but it was due to the other guy they had with them (can't remember who it was). I see their point now.

Yeah, his history with the Knicks is about the only thing I think may influence his decision.

Would suck since he's been good for Dwight and right now I think its good to have this kinda coach while Dwight is very much in his learning curve.

Though if we do lose him we should look to get a good big man coach straight back in.

Can you name one thing Dwight has learned thanks to him? Because when I look at '07, I've not seen anything new or improved, especially about free throws or post moves (like Z'fly said).

To me, Pat Ewing is the best fast-food coach in the NBA, he'd be a great fit in NY with Curry under his wing

Intangibles.

Every game, you hear about Ewing getting in Dwight's ear, telling him not to get frustrated, to focus on other parts of the game if his shots aren't falling or he's not getting the ball. Mentality is at least half of being a great player, and Ewing has the mentality of a great player in excess. Any of that he can share with Dwight is worth his weight in gold.

Maybe you should upgrade to NBA '08? I'd imagine it has better graphics and gameplay? :dontknow:

He rushed a lot during the Piston's series - prob because of physicalness of their big men - and as a result he was mostly devoid of touch.

Howard is still raw, but there's been to his game this season. He still dunks a whole lot, but there's been evidence of a budding post game, as well as a hook, back-down, bank shot, etc.

But I think Ewing certainly has helped him. It would be foolhardy to expect him to turn into Hakeem in one season.

Best of luck to Pat whatever his decision may be. If he does leave I'm sure we will pick up another bigman coach for Dwight. I'll bet there will be people knocking down the doors trying for the opportunity to work with Superman.

Tom Thibodeau was the guy that worked with Yao, he now works with the Celtics it would be hard to see him give up that ring..errr job.

If Ewing leaves my vote would be for Bill Walton, he was very good back in his day and I think Dwight might take things from HOF big men with an open mind.

I read the article and saw nothing that suggested Ewing had any interest in the job -- just that D'antoni was willing to consider him.

A) Home sweet home - there's nothing like NYC, well at least that I know of.

B) When D'ant takes too long to pick up the pieces, he can step in.

Yeah, but they are a loooooooooooong way away from being worth a risk.
