Who are you rooting for and why?

I'm rooting for the Pistons because I don't believe in quick fixes like the Celtics had this off-season. I also hate when teams sign players in the mid-season like the Celtics did with PJ Brown and Sam Cassell. I know the Pistons signed Theo Ratliff as well, but it's 2 versus 1. I like the way the Pistons are managed every year with the core players returning and other parts are added who know their role and play unselfishly. Joe Dumars > Danny Ainge.

i want to see doc rivers fired, so i'm rooting for the pistons.

plus, the pistons are so cool and so smooth and i just love them all to bits.

I wrote something similar in the playoffs thread. I respect Detroit more and Joe Dumars because they built that team from the bottom up. They took castoffs from other teams, drafted well, and got decent fitting free agents, and put it all together over time. While Boston simply adds a few star players in one years time. Then because of that, they get even more good players in their twilight looking for their ring. The rich get richer so to speak. Well, we can see the difference in the two when it comes playoff time. Two seven game series, barely sneaking by the Hawks and the Lebron's. I'll definitely be rooting for the Pistons.

Sorry, I didn't see your post about this issue. But yea that's exactly how I feel. That's why I can't root for teams like the Celtics or the Lakers and I almost wish for a Spurs/Pistons finals just to slap David Stern in the face with all this Lakers/Celtics hoopla.

I hate Pierce and Rivers, but Garnett is class.

Plus, I hate the entire Pissed-ons team more than the Celtics. So, it's an easy choice.

Would they be the first to win the 'chip without winning on the road in the playoffs?

Probably, they are the first time in the east at least to make it to the eastern conference finals without winning a road game according to NBATV.

pistons because the celtics suck. paul pierce got lucky. there is no way a team adds 2 allstars in 1 offseason.

I think the Pistons will win though.

Celtics will win. They don't lose at home.

i'm going to go with the C's, only because i think it might be good for the league to see that Lakers V Celtics final that Stern has been hoping for. bring more fans back.

sad thing is that the Celts don't have long at all to make this a big rivalry, whereas the Lakers are young. they've got the legs to last.

otherwise, i echo other people's opinions on respecting the Pistons far more because they built that team the real way.

detroit traded for and signed a lot of their players through free agency.

sheed, rip, billups, even ben wallace when he was part of the group weren't drafted by detroit IIRC>

the only starter they drafted i believe is tayshaun prince - built the right way? you mean how the clippers draft all their players to get into the playoffs once a decade?

if you are going to hate on the celtics - detroit is in the same boat.
every team makes trades. no big deal.

Well the Pistons have been together for a while now, no major overhaul. They have been consistently good for many years now unlike the Celtics. Since 04 the same core players have been with the team and every year they bring in some veteran players who know their role with the team. They also draft smart.... Maxiell, Stuckey, Tayshaun. If the Celtics are this good 3 or 4 years down the road, I will respect them.

Go Pistons. I have a ton of respect for them.

ive shifted my focus to the off season for the magic because david stern decided long before the playoffs started that it was going to be the lakers and the celtics in the finals...

I always want the team that beats my team to win. It sorta makes me feel better....

Really though, I would not mind seeing the Celts win, just for Garnetts sake. I like that guy.

This really makes me think of a US presidential election, or any election for that matter...

It really is tough to choose. Boston's sports fans have been awfully spoiled lately, but at least their city has many other things going for it, they can weather a loss...On the other hand, they are a team of aging ring-chasers thrown together by a guy who made some shrewd (and lucky) moves, particularly that one trade with another GM who happened to be an ex-Celtic. Maybe there really is something to those holy undergarments. A lot of people are on KG's jock, but I don't care for the guy. Ray Allen has to be one of the most overrated players in the league, but I like Pierce. Who else can you really like on that squad? Alien? Dirty PJ Brown? The media has slobbered all over this team since the pre-season, but Boston would be much more entertaining to watch versus the Spurs/Lakers than the Pistons...KG/TD would be a great battle between the whiniest big men.

As for Detroit...Why is Joe Dumars considered a god of good sportsmanship? Wasn't he a part of that Pistons team that walked off the court before the buzzer sounded prior to losing the '91 ECF to the Bulls? And their fans? Look at their behavior.. How can anyone associate that team with class? I really do like watching Rip and McDyess run around with their masks on too. Sheed/TD would be another good battle of the whiners, I think Timmy's eyeballs will finally pop out from all the faces he'd make in that series. Would the Spurs be able to properly execute their flopping against the Pistons? Besides, do we really want to see another '05 Finals? However, I can see why many here will root for the Pistons as they did beat us, some kind of pride thing I guess.

I really hate Detroit's PA guy too. The less I hear of him, the better. So I've gotta swallow my dislike of Boston sports teams and say "Let's go Celtics."

I want Detroit to absolutely beat the crap out of Boston. I'll be rooting for them 100%
