(OT) Wade: We deserve the top pick

Dwayne Wade of the Miami Heat was qouted as saying "It's not about luck, we feel we deserve the top pick." My question to you all is: Do you have a problem with that statement. I feel like just because they lost 67 game, doesn't mean they have earned or "deserve" the top spot. It's the same arguement of whether every pop warner team player should get a participation trophy.

Wouldn't they have gotten the 1st pick had they been in the NFL?

And 'yes' to N4U's question.

yea stop tanking, yes they had a lot of injuries, and couldnt get a solid unit together at times, but come on only winning 15games in the east..it looked like they gave up

He knows if he and Marion played all year they would not be the worse team in the league. They did not deserve the top pick.

IMO the team with the least amount of talent deserves the top pick. IMO Minnesota is the team with the worst talent in the NBA. There the ones that deserve the pick probably the most.

Miami deserved the 5th pick. And Wade should do more playing and less talking.

I feel bad for T Wolves though...They need a star

I'm not trying to defend the Heat (yuck), but T-Mac played 67 games during 03-04 and we still ended up with the last pick. Granted, the Heat had two stars on their team (Shaq and Marion), but you have to wonder if they rested them more than they needed to.

They didn't get screwed. They are going to get an outstanding player with the No. 2 pick, too. The problem would have been if they had dropped to No. 3. I did think the Heat tanked, though. I wasn't sure until they traded for Shawn Marion and he was out for the season soon afterward, too. That guy is never hurt and had been healthy all season until he got to Miami. I thought the Wolves and Grizzlies deserved the No. 1 and 2 picks. The Grizz are having some serious problems. But perhaps that is their penance for gifting Pau Gasol to the Lakers.

What GARBAGE. 'We sucked so bad, and we tanked so many games at the end of the year, so we must deserve the top pick'.

If anything, I would say that the top two picks should have been given to Minnesota and Seattle without even bothering with the lottery process. Yes, their teams' sucked, but from what I saw of them, they went out every single night and busted their hump in an attempt to win games and salvage pride. They didn't shut down their best three players (Wade, Marion, Haslem) as well as others, and have their coach take time off during the run-in, in a blatent attempt to snag the top pick.

If you ask me, the NBA should appoint and independent body that each season reviews every single game involving a team in the lottery race, and the circumstances around them ('injuries', 'scouting reports', etc.) from February onwards. Any signs of tanking and they immediatly lose any shot at any of the top 5 spots.

Wade: "What the hell, Pat? You told me that if I sit for the end of the season, that we'd get the first pick> I didn't play for nothing?!"

Pat Slimey: "My bad, dog"

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chris Wallace: You told me that if I gave them Pau, that you'd make sure I'd be taken care of! What happened?"

Stern: "I had my fingers crossed. So sue me. You guys are fricking Memphis. What'd you expect?

The Cavs tanked and got Lebron. When Wade is playing hurt still puts up monster numbers and the team loses that should tell you something about how bad the heat are. Marion without nash avg 14 ppg....

How is getting either Rose or Beasley "gets screwed"?

They have Wade and Marion, adding either Rose or Beasley is going to instantly make them one of the best team in the East. That's rewarding tanking to me.

LOL at Dwayne Wade...
"We tanked so bad (or sucked so bad) last season that we deserve the top pick", like he's proudly admitting how hard they sucked and that they were the worst team in the league...

I like this idea actually.
If you tank, you get out of the lottery, so, for example, Miami tanks the season, the other 12 teams get on the lottery and Miami gets by default the 13th pick.
If the 13 bottom teams tank, they just get the pick in reverse order of their records
