since the draft is coming i figured i would look into some of our old picks/ flops...if you want to add to it with other picks and where they are now, go right ahead, otherwise ill pick someone new each day when im bored at work..lol

todays pick is:

Jeryl Sasser

from wikipedia:

Jeryl Henry Braxton Sasser (born February 13, 1979 in Dallas, Texas) is an American professional basketball player formerly in the National Basketball Association whose most recent team was Bnei HaSharon of the Israeli basketball league.
After graduating from Dallas's Justin F. Kimball High School, Sasser played college basketball at Southern Methodist University and was selected by the Orlando Magic as the 22nd pick in the 2001 NBA Draft. In two seasons for the Magic (his only in the NBA) he averaged 2.5 points per game.
He has also played with the Yakama Sun Kings of the Continental Basketball Association, and with French Pro A team

Rodney Dent: he was the first player selected b the Magic that never played in the NBA. Yes he was the #31 player selected, but still, a good list of players that followed his selection had nice NBA careers.

Jim McIlvaine, Michael (The Animal) Smith, Anthony (Pig) Miller, Voshon Lenard, Lawrence Funderburke, and Anthony Goldwire all had respectable NBA careers. And all were drafted after Dent.

let's see.... steven hunter, matt harpring, mike miller, curtis borchardt, michael doleac, keyon dooling, dwight howard, jameer nelson.

btw, would keyon dooling be considered a bust b/c of his draft positioning

Harpring, Miller, and Dooling were not busts.

Hunter, Borchardy/Humphrey, Sasser, and Gaines were complete busts.

The lifetime magic draft track record is about a D. And that includes credit for Shaq and Howard.

no because that draft sucked.. we probably had the best draft out of everybody that year (even tho we didnt technically keep Keyon)

ummmm,

Chris Corchiani (the assist MACHINE! just not in the NBA), David Vaughn, Mike Ansley, Stanley Roberts (too bad he didnt work out), Geert Hammink, Amal McCaskill (lol), Brooks Thompson (horrible draft class however), Omar Cook/Sasser (double LOL) and Reece Gaines....oh man...even all their abilities combined into one monster player, that player would still suck...

Lol i just found this 2002 Draft Prospect Vid of Steven Hunter http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_43tJqhOhJU when he was at DePaul...Im not gonna lie he did look good....judging by some of the post moves he made here he looks like he actually regressed as soon as he was drafted. (did he tear a knee before his rookie year?)

Reece Gaines http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TdLqHm8TyQ

Its crazy how good some players look in college...until they get to the next level :noway:

that was 01 though right? I'm not going to lie, I liked Hunter coming into the NBA, I didn't like him for the Magic per say, but when we drafted him I didn't "hate" the pick...I wanted the Magic to draft Haywood, Randolph or Eddie Griffin that year...

How about this guy?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keon_Clark

Picked in the same draft with Harpring and Doleac, but shipped out to Denver on draft night. Probably had the highest ceiling of the three, but as you can see from the article, was and is monumentally screwed up.

The many scouts never watched Gaines actually play.

The guy could not dribble at UL.

Disagree on Dooling... Selected 10th, with the likes of Hedo, D Mason, Q Rich, Magloire, Mo Pete, Najera and Redd after him... even DS is arguably better after his past 3 seasons... too many selected after him who were far superior in my book, he's a legitimate rotation player, but for a 10th pick, he was a bust.

Thankfully though, since the Clips traded for him on draft night, the blood is on their hands, not ours.

I know somebody already brought him up, but I'll drop the name of Omal Mccaskal again. I also offer up Fran Vasquez and JJ Redick.
