Good to see Dwight ranked ahead of guys like Yao, C-Webb, Brand, LJ. I think he'll move up a few more spots in the next few seasons.

On a side note, it's good to see Barneyani ranked with Olowokandi and Kwame brown.

I think it's unfair to say how good he is because he's still too young to know.

Oden has yet to play a single minute and he's still ranked above two people?

Looks to me like they need some sort of method to this ranking.

What about Hakeem?? He should be # 1 and I'm sure there are others out there that should be on this list too ahead of Kwame and Kandi Man.

seems fine to me.

really, i think most #1 second round picks would have a hard time being worse than brown and olowokandi.

I don't disagree with that, but the fact is, he has yet to even step on the court.

If they were ranking where they could be then they should probably move some of the others, too.

There just doesn't seem to be any method or operational definition to "rank" in this particular ranking.

Sort of like how when Glyde did his team by team historical draft rankings, he had to make a choice (method) whether to count players in draft day trades with the team who picked them or the team who received them, rather than to just throw them in here and there on a whim with no method. That's how this ranking seems to be -- no method, just sort of on a whim.

at first glance i'd agree, but i started to think about it.

Both have 4 titles, both have 3 Finals MVPs. Shaq has one regular season MVP (though he deserved more), Duncan has two. Shaq's a 14 time all-star, Duncan 10 times (I believe). Both were ROY.

That's all pretty well known. But then you look at their defensive accolades. Duncan has been on the All Defensive 1st Team 7 times, and the 2nd team 3 times (i don't know what he was this year, so add 1 to whichever he was on). Shaq has been on 2nd team 3 times and never been first team.

Not too far of a stretch to say Tim Duncan could go down as the better player. Shaq I think will be remembered as the more dominant player in his prime, but prime isn't everything right?

Man, there were a lot of crappy #1's.

No offense folks but a lot of these questions and comments you are asking are addressed if you actually read the article. (The Olajuwan comment) The author also attempts to explain why he believes Timmy was ranked over Shaq.

Thankfully someone else actually read the article. TD is ahead of Shaq because he stayed with the same team. Obviously TD was a better pick for the Spurs because he brought them 4 rings, while Shaq brought Orlando none.

ouch... look at the bottom half of the ranking... 50% chance no.1 pick being borderline all star or worse. Doesn't seem to be good odds to me. Poor chicago.

Statistically, Duncan is the third best PF ever, after Bird and Karl Malone.

O'neal at Center is behind Abdul-jabbar, Chamberlain, Russell, and Moses Malone.

Third is better than fifth. KD wins.

In my opinion, if Duncan retired after this season, he's the best PF to play the game.

My guess is that he will only continue to add to his already amazing resume and further solidify himself in that spot.
