Shard at the SG?

I was kind of curious why this thought hasn't come up. I know that he played the PF spot for the team this year but his skill set (Particlulary his post-up game) at the SG spot would seem to present more match-up problems for the opposition than Hedo's skill set (Dribble Drive).
I am sure there would be issues on the defensive end but he could make up for it with his length. Plus the team could switch to a zone with four 6' 10" guys on the floor (Shard, Hedo, Battie, Dwight).

PG Dwight
SG Shard
SF Hedo
PF Evans
C Jameer
Now THATS some serious match up problems on offense, and then on defense everyone can just guard the player at their natural position.

Lewis would get renamed if he played the 2G.
Call him "The Matador"

Nah, put Foyle at the PG. He'll give Chris Paul nightmares!

I like the way you're going with this - allow me take it in another direction.
We can have this line up:
Turk (true point forward)
Lewis
Gortat
Battie
Dwight
6'10 + starting lineup!!!

I think having Turk and Lewis slide down 1 place is more "natural" than having them the way they were this year.

How about this.
PG- Patrick Ewing
SG- Otis Smith
SF- Brian Hill
PF- Rich DeVos
C- Nick Anderson
Head coach: Carlos Arroyo
Assistant Manager: JJ Redick
Waterboy: Adonal Foyle

I am a little surprised with the responses to my quiry.
It's not like Rashard is that much different from Turk in terms of measurables.
Hedo 6'10" 220 lbs
Shard 6'10" 230 lbs
Shard has played the SG spot before (I know that it was early in his career). It seems to me that if the Magic switch Hedo to the SG spot his offense could struggle because SG's are typically quicker and could cut-off the lane where Shard would just simply post them up and negate their speed advantage.

Hedo at the 2 doesn't make sense. Why would Rashard?

let's acquire shawn bradley and earl boykins and run this line up
pg-andrew "the hammer" declerqc
sg-shawn "hardass" bradley
sf-earl "mr. 315" boykins
pf-jud "nightmares" buechler
c-chucky "dazzle" atkins
6th man- dwight "softy" howard
coach-brian hill
ast coaches-johnny davis, chris jent, paul westhead
gm-john weisbrod (since he would be the only one in the NBA that could put this on the court)
ast. gm (draft expert)- dave twardzik (he'll also be the european scout)
my prediction, 5-77

I'm not trying to say that Shard at the 2 makes sense. To be honest the Magic either need to move one of them (Obviously it would be Hedo) or just start the game with a small-ball line-up because I don't think that the MIP would want to come off the bench.
I was just curious why when people talked about going with a big line-up next year they shifted Turk to the 2 and not Shard to the 2. It's not like Shard put on a ton of weight to play the PF spot. He could spend this off-season preparing himself to play the 2/3 rather than the 3/4.
His post-up game coupled with the emergence of Gortat, and the addition of Battie and other big men through the draft & free-agency would allow SVG to rest Dwight a bit more but still have a low post scoring option because of his size advantage at the 2 or 3.

Hedo could survive at the 2G in limited stretches.
Lewis even less. He lacks the athleticism that Hedo has, so it's not a matter of just working on it IMO.
By moving either Hedo or Lewis to the 2G, makes the Magic the worst defensive team in the NBA.
Defensively, Lewis held his own at PF this year. Previously, at SF, he was considered a liability. He'd probably become one again if he returned full time to SF.
Hedo at 2G also becomes a liability. 6'10 guys can not effectively cover 6'5 guys on the perimeter.
So, defensively, the Magic would currently go from Ok at the 4, OK at the 3, and weak at PG, to bad at the 3, bad at the 2, and the pg doesn't change.

Rashard can't dribble, And an SG would be able to steal the ball every single time. The only thing i think he could do was just shoot over them. And you can't make all your shots.

Rashard isnt athletic enough to guard the smaller faster SG's in the NBA. Hedo can atleast stay in front of the SG's but is still a defensive liability at the 2.

Turkoglu has experience at the SG slot over the early years of his career. Lewis is a prototype SF.
That said, he would create so many matchup problems at the SG slot that the Magic might be able to outscore their opponents.
What is clear if the Magic use their MLE on a slashing wing, and keep Hedo, is that the 2,3,4 slots will move in an almost triangle style for Orlando next year. Nelson on the arc, and Howard cemented in the post whilst three tallish wings rotate in circles. Jameer and Hedo would alternate ball handeling, confusing even further.
The Magic might get this triple wing system to prosper!

[/hater] Why not foyle at PG, he can't be a worse passer than Jameer [/hater]
I love the offseason, can't wait for the inevitable post-draft explosion

I almost look forward to the Magic drafting Danilo Gallinari or Nicolas Batum, so we can here a press-conf from GM Smith about why two-years in Europe will be good in the development of another Magic 1st

i think moving hedo to sg would make more sense, and then putting shard at sf.
