Magic are expected to trade for a 2nd round pick

Post#1 » by Magicalltheway » Thu May 29, 2008 2:19 pm

The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that the magic are expected to trade the pick with with the Blazers or the Sonics. So what would we get in return, Cash? future 1st? two 2nd rounders? :wavefinger:

"The Magic are expected to bring in about a dozen players in the next week for a closer look. They have the 22nd pick in the first round and are expected to trade with either the Portland Trail Blazers or Seattle SuperSonics for a second-round pick. Their own second-rounder already belongs to the Heat as compensation for allowing Orlando to hire Coach Stan Van Gundy, who still was under contract to Miami last summer."

Is it time to panic yet? Just when you think we are done screwing up our draft picks a report like this surfaces to bring chills to our bodies.

well IF the Magic are trying to put together a "package" with like JJ and the Pick for a quality player and the 2nd rounder, depending on the player it might be better than drafting anyone...however...well...track record...

LOL dude i dont think you read that right. What i got from that is that the Magic are looking to acquire a 2nd rounder since they dont have one, not that they are gonna trade their first round pick.

Title should read

"Magic are expected to trade for a 2nd round pick."

The article doesn't mention trading our 1st round pick.

"are expected to trade with either the Portland Trail Blazers or Seattle SuperSonics for a second-round pick."

False alarm, it's a 2nd round pick.

Although I wouldn't be opposed to Chris Wilcox and a 2nd for #22 and JJ/filler.

It says the Magic have a first round pick and intend to get at least one second round pick. We knew that.

now that I have read the article  I dont see trading the #22 pick anywhere, so that's excellent...however...I wonder what we will be trading? future pick maybe?

How about cash? Bogans and Gortat were acquired with cash.

OK, I feel silly now, but boy did I ever panic. I already had my letter head typed up to send to Otis. LOL.

However, I am not giving up JJ for a 2nd. only cash and future consideration may be.

well that is very true, the only reason I speculated is because they said "trade" instead of buy...could very well be the case...

Meh, it's not like we will draft anyone good, especially given our recent draft history.

Povtak only says that this is what "is expected" (by him). It seems very likely that the Magic are going to obtain a second round pick, but I doubt even Otis knows yet how he's going to get it (or them).

He has probably or will soon start talking to others teams about 2nd rounders. One thing to consider is that 2nd round transactions arent ussually announced until the draft itself is going or right after. At times there is an agreement to trade a pick long before the draft but nothing is announced.

I wouldn't mind a Wilcox + 32 (Courtney Lee) or 46 (JR Giddens)

for

JJ/ Filler + 22nd

Would it be worth it for Seattle though???

Several teams have multiple 2nd round picks so it won't be any trouble acquiring one. As stated before, it will probably be worked out on draft night.

us looking at dorsey tells me that we will be trading for a second rounder because there is no way we take him with the 22nd pick...maybe the 22nd pick and jj to the blazers for their second rounder and webster?
