The Orlando Sentinel -
Magic general manager Otis Smith truly believes that his team should still be playing, according to The Orlando Sentinel.

His contract was recently extended an additional three years.

"I really believe we should still be playing now. It's disappointing that we're not," Smith said. "It's just not good enough if you don't win it all. That's the only thing we're here for."

Smith created the cap room to sign Rashard Lewis and convinced Dwight Howard to sign a contract extension, putting Orlando in contention over the next decade.

"I'm proud of some things, but there have been a lot of lows, too," he said. "There are a lot of things you're kicking yourself for, things you did, or
didn't do. It's never good enough if you don't win a championship."

Is anyone else saying to themselves enough is enough with this type of talk?

Is he going to realize this team was not able to beat the pistons in two games w/o arguable their best player and magic killer numero uno?

When is he going to realize if they were good enough to keep playing, then they would be, you cant sugar coat it, just tell it like it is. That's just my opinion.

The magic had holes in their roster we saw before the trade deadline, and he didnt do anything (some people will say we dont know the offers and that's true) But I do know he said redick was untouchable but then said he is tradeable now, So without going much into detail about that, if he did do something at the deadline, then maybe they would still be playing, because those holes were exposed....

The margin between us playing the Celtics or the Pistons in the ECF wasn't very large. A few more FTMs or few less timely TOs, and it would have been a very different series.

Otis says he wants the team to continually improve - nothing wrong with that.

I need to issue a retraction statement, I immediately read the headline and looked for the quote that he did say it, and posted my thoughts.

After completely reading the article, I took that quote out of context and so my post is pretty poo poo right now.

Agreed with posts above, it's a good attitude to have and nothing really wrong with it..

my applogies...

I don't mind Otis' public persona, but dear god please tell me he doesn't truely believe the things he says when behind closed doors making decisions for the franchise.

Other than that, I do like his positive attitude. But keep it within limits, please.

He's showing confidence in his young team which is what they need.

I'm sure he thinks the core is good, and we need some tweaking to get to the next level.

I'm sure Paxson thinks the Bulls should be still playing as well, what kind of a statement is this out of Smith exactly?

The first rule is to not pay any attention to what Smith says.

That's if you can understand it.

LOL

He should say something along the lines of, "boy, if I drafted someone who would've actually helped Dwight instead of Fran, maybe we would actually still be playing."

Is it just me or does it seem like Stan might not enjoy this kind of talk from the GM? It seems to me like it could be interpreted as blaming the coach, when I think SVG did an excellent job this past year.

he sort of hints at that. i'm just gonna paraphrase here because direct quotes are for losers, but it was something along the lines of "there are some lows. sometimes you kick yourself for things you did or didn't do". that's Otis' way of taking blame for everything he's done wrong. LOL. yet when he appears to get something right, he'll make sure the press do a separate article on each high light.

which i think should've been the headline of the article:

"Otis Believes Magic Should Still Be Playing If He'd Done More"

would've given the Otis haters some light relief and probably got half the guys on this board off his back.

Thats a looser mentality. Its an automatic excuse machine. Winners acknowledge they failed and do the things necessary that they won't fail again. In the past the Pistons did that we think were the better team garbage. You can see where it got them. The only way to improve is to acknowledge failure. Figure out why you failed and improve on your weaknesses.
