Jerry West who steped down last year as Memphis GM and is great friends with the owner of the Girzz and then joined the Lakers staff again as a "consultant" gives the thropy presentation to the Lakers as he cries.....

If any team besides Boston or LA had done this the NBA would not have allowed it.

pick your deal
1.tyrus thomas, joakim noah, thebo sefolosha, andres nocioni, adrian griffin, draft picks, and moving him to the east
2. kwame brown, javaris crittenton, marc gasol, aaron mckie, draft picks, keeping him in the west
i know that isnt the exact deal chicago was offering, but still looks better then the lakers..

I thought part of trading (especially if your an NBA GM) is to find the best possible value you can get for a player your trade (Gasol(. He failed to do his job and should be fired imo..
Why not trade for Marion back then? Im pretty sure he was available on the block and woulda be great for Iavaroni's fast break style.
Navarro
Miller
Gay
Marion (assuming they resigned for him)
Rookie C (Brook Lopez would fit nicely)

There were so many rumors about what Chicago offered - but that deal has 3 lotto picks on rookie contracts and a guy (Nocioni) who Memphis apparently wanted bad enough that they flew down to Argentina in off season to try to sign him.
What core players were Bulls supposed to offer? They would NOT want Hinrich or Ben wallace (then on team) with their salary. that would leave Deng and Gordon - but what would be the point of the Bulls gutting their team to get Gasol?
It's not like they were offered any core players from LA. It was, as Kobe said, not a trade but a donation.
I agree that if it was anyone except the Celts or Lakers, NBA would block it. Look how upset Popovich was at the time of the trade - and still is!
