I just found this at the Orlando Sentient:

*This newspaper is acting quickly. Effective today, Brian Schmitz has been replaced on the Orlando Magic beat by Roger Moore, who will rate each game from one to five stars.

Considering this Moore fellow appears to review movies, and the little 5 star comment.. I'd say this was a joke. Sadly :(

Hey from what I gather Schmitz didn't have that much experience when he started his blog.
It would be great if it wasn't a joke/most likely as you said it is just that.

Yea, it's obviously a joke

You know former ref and, as David Stern calls him, "convicted felon" Tim Donaghy loves making the NBA squirm with his long-awaited accusations that he was not alone in intentionally altering the outcome of games. A few thoughts:

*A letter filed in federal court by Donaghy's attorney states that "Referee A and Referee F" altered two games in a 2002 playoff series. Personally, I trusted A but always knew there was something fishy about that guy F.

*Looks like the outcome of NBA games fall into the "Three M's" categories -- Messaged, Manipulated and Manufactured.

*Should the next commissioner be Vince McMahon?

*This newspaper is acting quickly. Effective today, Brian Schmitz has been replaced on the Orlando Magic beat by Roger Moore, who will rate each game from one to five stars.

True.

True.

The Sentinel would just replace the coverage by using more "picture articles".

Instead of an in game recap, they could just print the shot chart along with a couple of captions.

They are too crappy to print real content anymore.

How you figure? I've been subscribing to the Sentinel for 15 years, and he's been writing for the sports department as long as I've been reading it. He's got lots of experience. He hasn't always written about the Magic, but they have had at least five or six people over the years who have written about them.

From the O-Sen:
Brian Schmitz is the longest-tenured member of the Sentinel's sports staff, having left the Midwest chill to join the paper in 1975 upon graduating from the University of Iowa. He currently covers the Orlando Magic, a beat he inherited four years ago. Schmitz served as a columnist for 13 years at the Sentinel, earning various writing awards. During his career, Schmitz has covered 22 Super Bowls, 12 World Series, eight NBA Finals, five Olympics, various championship boxing matches as well as Florida, FSU and the Miami Dolphins.

So you are telling the rest of us that you want BS to keep on writing for the O.S. that you love his work.

Wow the exception to the general rule here. He may have many years experience, but that hasn't helped that he still stinks as a reporter IMO.

Do you think that makes sense???

If he had said GW Bush has a lot of experience as president of the US, would you interpret that as he wants to keep him as president and thinks he's a great president?

It was meant to challenge your assertion that you heard that he didn't have much experience before he started his blog. You've evidently got bad sources.

No matter how you look at it, Schmitz has a lot of experience sports writing because he has been doing it for at least 15 years. So however you determined that he doesn't have much experience -- blog or newspaper -- well, it's just plain incorrect. I'm not really interested in continuing this discussion for pages, but I don't see how you can dispute that the guy has experience.
