I had the same luck as well. People forget about it a lot but you can find a great dog at the Humane Society. There is one off Conroy. The entrance is opposite of IKEA by Mall at Millenia

Only thing that I had a problem with was not picking the name myself. Yeah I know I can call the dog anything I want but, I didn't want to add anymore confusion to an already confusing moment.

As far as what type of dog, I have an Australian Cattle dog and she is really smart and a great pet, they can be hyper and bark alot at times though. I really would like to get a German Shepherd though also.

If you go to the pound, get a puppy. Older rescue dogs can be fun projects (I have two such dogs), but for a first dog, they require work. Also, mixed-breeds are generally healthier and generally live longer. All my dogs are muts. I strongly recommend a puppy from the pound! You'll get a great dog for a low cost.

Another point about mall-dogs, many come from so-called puppy mills. These dogs can be quite inbred and can have problems from malnutrition. They have long term health problems and a short life span. If you want a pure-bred, I recommend you look for a local breeder in the paper. This might cost you more money, but isn't a healthy dog worth the cost?

I've always got my dogs from shelters. The last one was from a group called ARK, a pure breed English Pointer actually. Like everyone else said, go and rescue a dog, don't support these breeders. Also, as Bob Barker said, help control the pet population, have your pet spayed or neutered!

I have a boxer, guess everyone thinks their dog is the best ever, but she is really something special. Definately read up on the breeds and the temperments. Match it to your personal style as you look at rescues and such.

It really depends on what type of dog you are looking for.

Our family and close relatives have all kind of breeds.
I have a Beagle and two golden retrievers, two of my favorite breeds.

This is a key response. To restate in my words: find the dog that's right for you. Think hard about your living situation, both short and long term. Think about what you want a dog to be (energetic or lap dog). Etc.

In the end, you will get a tail wagger that loves you. That is a given (that's what dogs are). From there, the issue is compatibility at your end. None of us can answer that question for you.

I just got a Boxer puppy on Monday, I looked for a while at pounds b/c I wanted to rescue one but I knew it had to be a boxer b/c out of all the dogs I have ever had, the boxer was my favorite.

What ever u do, don't get it from a pet store...rescue or get it from a local breeder
